For nearly four years, Pittsburgh police Officer Phil Lerza considered K-9 Rocco to be a member of his family, and perhaps something more, since the two spent not only their time at home, but their working hours together.
When Rocco fell in January 2014, to a knife wound sustained in a basement arrest, it brought grief to the officer’s family, notably including his young children, he said Saturday.
