On June 6, 1944, Allied troops hit the Normandy beach on the coast of France on D-Day. Thousands were killed, but the rest didn't give up, and kept coming on in the face of withering enemy fire.

It was the beginning of the end (along with Russia's massive fighting on the Eastern Front) of Hitler's Nazi Germany.

Few these days care about what Us and the Brits, Canadians, Poles, and Free French did on this day.
The Belgian's still care for our people's gravesites 70+ later for liberating them. Gen Patton is
buried in Luxembourg: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxembourg_American_Cemetery_and_Memorial .
