View Full Version : Midnight Patrol - Great Horned Owl

This morning at 1:30 as I turned into my driveway, a Great Horned Owl jumped up out of nowhere and landed in a tree. As far as I know, about the only time they're on the ground like that is when they've got prey.

If the neighbor's mischievous cat comes up missing, I'll know who is Suspect #1.

Unfortunately, my phone was at 5% battery so the low-power mode made for grainy pics and wouldn't flash for me... but still, cool to see one of these. They're pretty elusive.

I think I posted here about the web site I was watching that had a Great Horned Owl's nest with 2 hatchlings? Mom and Dad were incredible hunters, and would bring back mostly egrets to eat. I thought that was weird- birds eating birds.

I've seen a couple in the wild. Just like Eagles, they are magnificent birds.
