View Full Version : You don't have rights, you have privileges

There has been a lot of discussion from folks (both sides) complaining that their such-and-such inalienable right has been threatened, amended or taken away completely. Or perhaps some candidate has promised to do so.
This led me to look up a routine by the legendary George Carlin, who was known to skewer liberals and conservatives equally. George always called it as he saw it.

Think you have rights (constitutional or otherwise)? Think again.

Strange....I Liked Carlin for his mastery of Semantics.

However his example of the internment camps under liberal Franklin Roosevelt
is highly misleading.

In what way misleading?

Meh. He spent half the time whining about religion. I don't recall any credible arguments that the BoRs came from God. Nevertheless he's partly correct; we have Natural Rights (God given or not doesn't matter), Constitutional rights, and from there are privileges.

Yeah, I got the feeling over the years that 'ol George wasn't really fond of religion. :dunno:

Semantics? You grasping at straws? I agree, we have the right to live so long as we can do so. How does that work with your other arguments? When you make an argument, not everyone forgets from one minute to the next.

Flip-flopping between the written law "rights" and actual rights doesn't suit you. Or does it?

Technically, you have the right to draw your next breath so long as you can defend it. In another thread you're asking "Why fight?". To live. Get off the fence. I'll fight for what I have. What happens to you? Gonna argue a bullet to death? I can guarantee a winner.

Gunny, and....much to the displeasure of everyone who thinks only they can decide what WE THE PEOPLE have. The one RIGHT everyone has, no matter what nation they live in is...THE RIGHT TO BE STUPID. Nobody will ever take that away from ANYONE.

The usual fibs and whines by the usual board big-govt pushers.

In fact, you do have rights. The government sometimes violates them. More and more as the big-govt pushers gain power.

But that doesn't mean you don't have those rights any more. Just that the govt doesn't mind violating them.

From that, you should not decide that your rights are gone.

Instead, I suggest you decide that that particular government should be gone.

In fact, you do NOT have ANY Rights you can't back up by force of arms. The very government you decry is the same one that tells you that you have "Rights". Those "Rights" aren't worth the paper they're printed on if you aren't willing to fight to death for them.

Speaking of the "usual suspects", you got quite a contradiction going. You hate the government that gives you those "Rights".

You have the "Right" to breathe when you are born. Provided you can manage to keep yourself warm, fed and breathing. This construct you call "Rights" is man-made and doesn't mean jack shit in the reality of life.

Gunny, and All. Government DOES NOT GIVE US OUR RIGHTS.

The U.S. Constitution does. It just happens that Far TOO MANY Americans are miserably uninformed, uneducated, and dependent on Government to do their BLIND Thinking.

I completely agree. Look at what I have scribbled all over the board. I swore to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Not some dumbsshit politician that thinks she's above the law.

Again, that paper and ink are worth the blood that has been shed to defend it. You stop defending it, you lose.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about because none of those are true statements. :)

They are quite true. Man gives you "Rights". God doesn't. That is a Western political notion. It's the reason we've got our noses in everyone else's business when we can't handle even our own.

Fact: you have the right to survive as long as you are able to do so. The rest is crap.

Actually, it is you who are not listening. You have NO "Rights" beyond the ability to back up your ink with a sword. The topic is "Rights", not your comments to misconstrue it.

Yu have no right to do jack except keep yourself alive as long as you can. Words on a piece of paper mean something only if you can shove it down someone's throat.

Because the answer is always the same. At least I'm not dancing around a topic. Rights are a construct of man and his society. They are not God given.

Well if you'd quit dragging this crap out out and stay on topic ......

If you paid so much attention you'd also know I've said in countless threads I'm not reading someone's long-winded, boorish BS.

You can't catch the wind, FJ.

I didn't know 4 sentences was long winded. Four completely on topic sentences I might add. :)

No shit, junior. And the message doesn't change with me, per your own post. So, people can quit making thread after thread on the same topic because I hate repeating myself.

Or they cannot expect me to read post after post after post that is the same old rhetoric and responding. I need to do an Indago and just cut n paste a response.

Our disagreement is you just like to disagree. You're like talking to my brother. That's why you can't play this sh*t on me. I got 54 years of experience with that f*cktard. He'll completely reverse position just to argue.

I got your name and I got your number, private. You can't even agree to agree. All about pissing people off with you.

We no longer agree. ;) As far as the rest I don't think I've disagreed with you.
