The Democratic Party added a carbon tax to its party platform Tuesday, addressing so-called man-made global warming, despite warnings from one of the party’s wealthiest benefactors.

“Democrats believe that carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gases should be priced to reflect their negative externalities, and to accelerate the transition to a clean economy and help meet out climate goals,” the Democratic Party platform now reads.

The carbon tax is a smack in the face to environmentalist billionaire Tom Steyer, who has issued warnings in the past that a carbon tax is too much of a wedge issue for Democrats.

In an interview with ClimateWire on Monday, the former hedge fund manager said swapping the Clean Power Plan for a carbon tax is essentially a death knell for Democrats in states heavily tied to natural gas development.

“That’s a huge wedge issue," Steyer said of a carbon tax. “I think it’s a critical issue as to whether they turn out.”

Canada's carbon tax is estimated to cost the average Canadian $500-$1,000 a year.

Just for sh*ts n grins, let's say the are right. What exactly does taxing people do for the environment?

For Al Gore, who proudly declared he wants to be the world's first carbon credit billionaire, it would help his environment greatly. The "environment" for liberals really means "their own personal habitat".

George Carlin said it best here in one of his all-time funniest bits:

The beauty of economic oppression - especially that of the poor - by Democrats is this: It makes-slaves of people - slaves to the programs Democrats try to provide to offset the fact Democrats are taking money away from people to begin with.

I fucking detest liberal ideology. Today's liberal is setting off a suicide vest to society - but one that takes 100 years to full detonate.

I just can't believe people buy this sh*t. A tax is going to change a cyclical environmental change in the Earth? Sell that one to the dinosaurs. What is a tax going to do to change anything but our bank balances? And who gets the money?

A bunch of people who have made a business out of nothing that can be controlled. Let's pay a carbon tax. We can start by using the incomes of every idiot getting paid to concoct some drama. Their checks ought to more than cover the nonexistent expense.

And STILL nobody's going to control the weather.

That is what is so amusing about this issue. So a tax is created. What exactly will it fix?
Will it fix volcanoes that in one eruption can issue forth more deep held toxic gasses than even
the worst domestic factories and power plants put forth? Yeah....fix volcanoes, whiners!

Will it fix naturally occurring radioactive elements?

Will it fix the methane gases that cattle produce? Kill all the cattle, tax?

Tax controlling the weather...that's rich!

Meh. Nobody pays attention to party platforms. If their candidates start talking about it then...

A tax influences behavior. Any good conservative knows that. :poke:
