Insult the flag. Insult the anthem. Protests and riots. But as soon as you say/write something that others disagree with - well then that's different!

Tourists are complaining over a sign in the Maine town of Boothbay Harbor. The sign reads "black rifles matter. Yes we have them, No you can't take them."

The sign's creator, licensed firearms dealer Linc Sample, says his sign is about gun rights not about race. He painted the sign and placed it on private property after an ad appeared in a local paper supporting an "assault" weapon ban.

"That's really a trigger for me — the assault weapons ban," said Sample.

He chose the phrase as a play on the racial group "Black Lives Matter" to make a point. And Samples says imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

"If anything, they should be flattered I used the phrase," said Sample.

"They're being targeted for their appearance, well so's my rifle," he told NECN News.

Haha! We visit Boothbay every summer. It is a gorgeous coastal Maine tourist "village". I cannot imagine a less-likely place for controversy. It is surely tourists from Blue states that have a problem with it.

I was stationed there for a bit back in the 80's.

At that time the locals were hard working folk, dependent on the summer influx of tourists

This influx became a take-over.

And now the bleeding hearts who so despise all things American have the place
