After it landed on the base, just south of Mosul, US troops tested it and received an initial reading for a chemical agent they believe is mustard.

No US troops were hurt or have displayed symptoms of exposure to mustard agent.

One official said the agent had "low purity" and was "poorly weaponized." A second official called it "ineffective."

A US defense official said troops had gone out to look at the ordnance after it landed. Based on seeing what they thought was a suspect substance, two field tests were conducted.

The first test was positive and the second was negative, the official said. The substance is now being sent to a lab for further examination.

Hmmm...lots of circumstances can give a false positive mustard agent BUT if it really was some type of attempt to use a chemical agent, that would most certainly change things drastically!!

Imagine even a low grade weaponized chemical agent being used in bombs like those used in New York!

Lexington is just a few miles up the interstate from the weapons depot that stocks chemical weapons. When I worked in ER, we were trained on what to do. Chemical weapons are scary-bad.

Totally agree. The will to use WMD is a very serious danger to us all. I can imagine a rogue nation (North Korea?) or even a nation state like Iran selling ISIS a low grade nuke or weapons grade biological/chemical weapon. That would be a massive game changer ... perhaps to the point where any sympathy for Muslims (friendly or not) would go right out the window, especially if such a weapon was used in any Western nation like the US or European or allied nation.
