Hit this station a few thousand times when I lived in NJ. I can't believe that only one person died.

1 Dead, 108 Hurt in Hoboken Train Crash

A woman died and more than 100 other people were hurt when an NJ Transit train crashed into the station in Hoboken at the height of Thursday's morning rush, leaving twisted piles of metal and cables and causing part of the highly trafficked terminal to collapse.

Sources familiar with the investigation told NBC 4 New York the woman who died was in her 30s and had been standing on the platform when train No. 1614 on the Pascack Valley Line barreled into the terminal at 8:45 a.m.

Preliminary reports suggest the crash was either accidental or caused by operator error, according to five law enforcement officials. They stressed it was early in the investigation, though.

At Least 1 Dead, More Than 100 Hurt After NJ TRANSIT Train Crashes At Station In Hoboken

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A speeding rush-hour train crashed into a wall at the Hoboken station, killing one person, injuring more than 100 others and causing serious damage to the terminal Thursday.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said the NJ TRANSIT train from Spring Valley, New York was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed through all of the barriers, slamming into the interior wall of the Hoboken Terminal around 8:45 a.m. Thursday.

Christie said the engineer operating the Pascack Valley Line train was critically injured and is cooperating with law enforcement officials in the investigation.

“We know what happened, we don’t know why it happened,” said New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who canceled a trip to Israel for Shimon Peres’ funeral because of the crash.

“We’re going to work together to make sure that the investigation is seamless, and coordinated, that we come to a conclusion as quickly as possible and that if there are steps that need to be taken thereafter to provide for even greater assurance of safety for the people of our states, you can be sure that we’ll work together through the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the MTA and NJ TRANSIT to make sure that occurs,” Christie said.
