Dylann Roof found guilty of federal hate crimes

Not exactly a shocking decision here. Why it took them a few hours is beyond me. Hopefully it will take less time in the penalty phase to sentence him to stop breathing as he deserves. My first thought is that since he is acting as his own attorney during that portion, he's definitely got one foot in the box already. Then again, that could just guarantee long drawn out appeals.

Charleston church gunman found guilty of federal hate crimes

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Reuters) - A jury on Thursday found avowed white supremacist Dylann Roof guilty of federal hate crimes resulting in the deaths of nine black parishioners at a historic church in Charleston, South Carolina, last year.

Jurors also said Roof, 22, was guilty of firearms violations and obstructing the exercise of religion for those he shot and killed during a Bible study at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on June 17, 2015.

The 12 jurors deliberated for a little less than two hours after six days of testimony. Roof showed no emotion as the verdicts were read.

The guilty verdicts on all 33 charges he faced pave the way for the penalty phase of Roof's trial. He has indicated he will serve as his own lawyer as prosecutors pursue a death sentence.

Certainly clear that he be found guilty of Murder. Glad there was no hesitation there.

I've never been a fan of "hate crimes". But "Hate" being determined as a motive for murder sure absolutely but the crime itself is murder.
When a man kills his wife's lover that's a HATE crime as well seems to me. Killing someone because they are of a different race, or is a woman, or is short or tall or bald or likes a different sport or sports team are "STUPID crimes".
If we had some "STUPID crime" Legislation I might be more supportive.

"Hate Crime" is an overused term used to define a supposed bigoted act....but rarely used on anyone but white folks,

But let's think....is there anything considered to be a "Nice Crime"? Blacks killing blacks, whites killing whites? Are those
nice crimes? What about blacks killing whites? Those are nice? Blacks killed by whites. Those are nice? Cops killed by
anyone. Those are nice crimes?

I get tired of the liberal semantics after a while. Crime is crime, period!
