GOOD! I'm sure there are some out there still though, that will say they are irreparably harmed by such a horrid greeting. I'm also sure there are some dolts that would prefer this somehow be outlawed.

Poll: Majority of Americans Prefer 'Merry Christmas' to 'Happy Holidays'

(CNSNews.com) – According to a recent survey, Americans prefer ‘Merry Christmas’ to ‘Happy Holidays’ by 20 percentage points. The Marist poll was sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, who released the findings on Thursday.

Among the 1,005 adults surveyed, nearly six in 10 (57 percent) said they prefer "Merry Christmas," and fewer than four in 10 (37 percent) preferred "Happy Holidays."

"The vast majority of Americans celebrate Christmas and prefer 'Merry Christmas' to a generic greeting," said Knights CEO Carl Anderson of the results. "Celebrating Christmas is a reminder that Christ came into the world out of love for us and to teach us to love one another."

Can't argue with science

It's easy. When science is illogical, it's just another belief.

Can't argue with science

Yup, as if on cue....

Angry that the majority prefer to say something that so horrifies you? And WHO said anything about science? Other than you, and saying as such in order to downplay what others feel and believe in?

Hilarious that some even have an issue with others saying merry christmas.

Doesn't matter the level to me, but it's obvious that things like this irk you, or you wouldn't reply with the sarcasm. Your problem with all things Christianity has been noted a few hundred times.

But still, a greeting, hilarious that atheists out there have an issue with it. That is some seriously weak minded folks.

If Christians put a sign up, and told folks to go to church, atheists would crawl into the corner and demand it be taken down and to have someone pay their medical bills.

You know, more and more frequently I find myself reading a post here at DP and wishing there as a counterpart to "Thanks" option...

Something along the lines of a "Fuck you" or "Shut the fuck up" button...

Then perhaps you can go kindly fuck yourself in another thread? Seriously, what's your point? Either chime in about the thread subject, or don't. Not EVERY thread here is going to be about people dying. Are ALL of your posts, just for the past few weeks for example, about people dying? I didn't think so.

‘Happy Holidays’ is code for ‘Merry Christmas’ and ‘Happy (Christian) New Year’

When people wish others a “happy holiday season” or just “happy holidays,” what exactly do they mean? This “season” usually begins around Thanksgiving and lasts through December until the first day of January, “New Year’s Day.”

Thanksgiving in the United States commemorates that mythical occasion when the Pilgrims and the “Indians” shared a joyous meal together. If we are wishing people a “happy holiday season” between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, whom are we including?

I suppose we cannot include Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs, some of whom celebrate Diwali (Festival of Lights), observed beginning in late Ashvin (between September and October on the Christian Gregorian calendar) and ending in early Kartika (between October and November).

And what about the estimated 16% of Americans who define themselves as “religiously unaffiliated,” “atheist,” “agnostic,” “freethinker,” or “non-believer,” as well as members of some religious sects, for example, Jehovah’s Witnesses, many of whom do not celebrate any holidays?

What events are we including in our “season’s greetings”? A major happening that comes to mind is the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere: that exact split second — usually occurring on December 21 or 22 on the Gregorian calendar — when the earth’s axial tilt is farthest from the Sun.

......

Earlier and earlier each year, often now following Halloween in late October, merchants and media begin proclaiming “happy holidays.” While many holidays, both religious and secular, occur around this time, “happy holidays” is in all actuality coded language for “Merry Christmas” and “Happy (Christian) New Year.” In fact, most non-Christian major holidays do not fall in December.

How many people in the United States really care about or are even familiar with the non-Christian holidays and celebrations that fall around this time of the year? What are these “Winter parties,” “Winter concerts,” “Winter school breaks,” and “Winter vacations” really about? I would ask, how many Christians would even have heard of Hanukkah had it not usually fallen in December on the Gregorian calendar? In actuality, Hanukkah is a relatively minor Jewish holiday — equivalent to, say, Arbor Day.

What we are experiencing is a form of Christian cultural imperialism (hegemony): a promotion of the larger Christian culture, celebrations, values, and beliefs.

I define Christian hegemony as the overarching system of advantages bestowed on Christians.

It is the institutionalization of a Christian norm or standard, which establishes and perpetuates the notion that all people are or should be Christian, thereby privileging Christians and Christianity and excluding the needs, concerns, cultural practices, and life experiences of people who do not define themselves as Christian. Often overt though at times subtle, Christian hegemony is oppression by intent and design, as well as by neglect, omission, erasure and distortion.

And while you have an issue with an actual topic - what was your last post of contribution to the board? Here it was. Seriously Pete. Not everything has to be what you like, or about things that save lives.

Oh. My. God. Shut. Up.

Why is it so hard to greet or respond in what reflects one's own faith - or lack thereof?

Nobody is forcing a single darn thing on others, except liberal whiners that are out to
correct everyone to suit their own selfish agendas.

Some words about tolerance.
Even in Soviet times the word 'Christmas' was widely used and Christmas was celebrated.
The most peculiar thing is that this holidays were and are celebrated regardless of religion of different people. For instance you can invite your friend Tatar Muslim and he will accept your invitation and will come.
Here in Russia we enjoy very prolonged so called 'New Year Holidays', which this year officially last from December 31st till January the 9th. (January 7th is our Orthodox Christmas - the official holidays in Russia) Bur practically... Those who work in non governmental bodies take unpaid leave somewhere 23-24th December and start enjoying these prolonged holidays somewhere on a sea shore or in Europe. Nowadays traditional Russian winter resorts in Europe, Turkey, Egypt and United Arab Emirates stopped being attractive because of some tension there, so the majority, who used to spend their vacations not at home, prefer to stay in Russia, or go to resorts in Indian Ocean.
Annually more that 15 million Russian tourists go abroad/ You called it overseas.
And final holiday in this row of rest and celebrations is 'An Old New Year', which we celebrate January 13-14th.
So you can see that in winter we have a lot of time to be in high mood.
