.. and Russia's intentions, its thinking, is not at all aggressive ...

So tell me. In the run-up to WWII, how did Hitler behave, in terms of military investment ? Didn't he work to try and ensure that his own forces were 'state of the art' ?

Are you just adding to a defensive posture, Balu, or does Putin have something else in mind ?

Sir Drummond. What you will never see, or hear Balu mention, when it comes to military abilities, operations, or standards is....Like their Russian Submarine Disfunctions of the past. Russia is actually in worse Financial, Economic condition than Putin wants anyone to know, or talk about.
Their military suffers from a lack of replacement parts, technical tools to repair aircraft, and land vehicles. They also suffer from the lack of sea power advantages like the U.S. has..as in Aircraft carrier operations, catapult operations, nuclear propulsion,
and oddly enough...the training required to ensure FIRE safety, Damage Control, and
responsible living conditions, and standards...other than providing a swimming pool, sauna, and other land based luxuries on ships. Russian navy ships are more like CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES, than operational, safely navigated warships.
In case anyone asks how I get my information here. I have this terrible habit of reading everything I can, and making certain...what I read is factual, honest, and not just BS like so many Billions of INTERNET Sources now are.

That thing wouldn't last 2 seconds against a Cobra.
