Former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt early Sunday mocked President Trump after Trump pointed to an incident “last night” in Sweden to defend his travel ban.

Maybe Trump meant Sweden, Kentucky. You know, just down the road from Bowling Green Massacre.

The Swedes are mystified by Trump's mystery attack on their country.
At the same time, Trumpers ignore the newest gaffe with their mantra "we won the election! your candidate lost! the muslims are coming!"

So Trump can't differentiate between a screening of a documentary and inferring to a terrorist event that didn't happen? What happens when dealing with something of importance?

Look, no one has ever accused Trump of being a gifted Orator. He shoots from the hip while speaking and doesn't re-read things before posting, and I agree that he should - but it is what it is. He's the President and he got where he is by being himself unapologetically. If he'd have allowed the "professionals" to modify his speeches and behavior, he'd have gone down like McCain did.

I've been lied to by politicians my whole life. Everyone has. It's a 100-year running joke regarding bullshit campaign promises, and it's been that way in America since well before any of us were born. Almost all of them delivered by smooth talkers making terrific speeches that ended up being baldfaced lies used to get elected.

So here's a guy that comes along, bluntly calling out bullshit where he sees it, struggles a bit making speeches, but by God, delivering on exactly what he said he would do. He did this despite attacks from the Democrats, Republicans and the Media. His powerful friends were few and far between.

He got elected not for making beautifully delivered bullshit speeches, but by speaking from the heart and sticking to his guns.

He does not give one fuck about being PC. Sure, it makes a bunch of his detractors engage in faux pearl-clutching, but I like that.

This guy is the ultimate outsider and it's high time someone like this came along to get in there and start kicking ass.

I'm quite sure everyone was able to discern what Trump was referring to.

You moonbats' obtuse ploy hasn't worked for a couple of decades now - time to develop a new schtick. Like maybe try to win an election somewhere. You, Gabby and Noir have mental deficiencies and your muppet behavior can't be helped. All of you have demonstrated that, and no one really gives a damn what you think because you're completely irrelevant.

My point is directed to people that I know have functioning logic circuits but are forgoing their use. Piling on with rabid moonbats out of #nevertrump butthurt isn't doing the country or the effort to turn this country back to solid conservative ideals that made this country the greatest in the world any good.

It's self defeating and makes you look like a petulant asshole.

That's because they are about to get their asses kicked in upcoming elections, just as you socialists pushing this insane open-borders bullshit are experiencing worldwide.

Take a look at how the European socialists in are plummeting in favorable numbers - France is swinging to the right, so is Germany, so is Britain, so is the Netherlands, the list goes on. You probably won't read much about that in your usual moonbat sites, though.

Your Soros-driven Globalist ideals are doomed and common sense is returning.

Personally, I do hope they get many of the issues he made promises about through. I don't see unwarranted 'gutter sniping' from most Republicans, I see concerns, many of the same ones that were evident during the election.

I know I've brought up several over different things that have been done and said, I've labeled them as 'concerns' and certainly tried to not be 'sniping' or even a bit snarky. The least amount of government necessary-in a nod to Hobbes, ideal would be a government we could just call up when invasion seems imminent, though granted that's fantasy.

A commitment to following the federalist system-choosing the most local level of government feasible to accomplish what the goal is. Restraining the federal government to only the powers given by the constitution. Thus a bridge in MN is not a federal responsibility. Airport improvements should be paid for by the airlines that profit from them.

Transparency in actions by the government to the people.

That's off the top of my head. Philosophically there's much more, but I don't have time or inclination to get into that now, I've done so in the past.

Ok using your post, trumps infrastructure dreams are not conservative. But neither were George W Bush's farm subsidies. I think transparency in government is a fantasy as well. Is FJ correct when he says conservatism has never been tried? I'll concede that keeping jobs here the way trump is doing it is not "republican" nor "conservative ". Is what he's doing with education a nod to the federalist system?

I haven't a problem with agreeing on definitions of conservative differs from person to person. I guess what I have a problem with is the insinuation that anyone not jumping up and down in glee for every pronouncement Trump makes is a RINO or liberal. That's just false. Those types of dichotomies have caused some to leave, others to avoid posting anything that so many will just jump at, regardless of what there may be worthy of discussion.

I only want the best for the country as a whole, regardless of which groups we are talking about. I do not have to agree with President Trump on every issue, I know I'm not going to agree with the way he says many things. That's ok for both him and me. I still want him to succeed in every way possible to make the country better. I do have concerns about how he's going about many things, especially administration issues. I hope that his learning curve is as high as I assume, if so, many of those concerns will be alleviated sooner than later.

There is very little that is conservative at the White House these days IMO. But you mention Bush; the criticism with him is that he, and the Republican Congress that he came in with, weren't truly conservative either; spending, Part D, etc. And of course they lost as a result IMO. To complain about RINOs and then to support trump while denying any criticism seems to be shooting oneself in the foot.

And McCain for all his faults is in no way related to the other 3.

Other side is ... is Trump going to finish picking his cabinet before re-election time? It'll be March in a week. He's had since November. Maybe he should spend a little less time on his cell phone arguing with snipes?

I've presented nothing but logic here recently and I'd welcome examples to the contrary. Any "gutter sniping" recently seems to be directed towards anyone who doesn't line up with current trumpian mythos.

Except McCain entertained the idea of running with Kerry, a far leftist. And McCain did endorse Hillary. So that leaves Obama. I agree McCain isn't as bad as Obama.

taking sides with the press and talking about trump and dictators in the same sentence when you're in Germany is uncalled for. This going rogue maverick crap of his doesn't impress.

I think senate is holding them up? As far as trump is concerned, the press is doing what he wants them to do: give him attention. It's trumps MO. Always has been.

I think I have said before trump isn't a republican nor a democrat. He's trump. But I would take him over Hillary, Obama, Kerry, and therefore McCain.

As as you said, this "conservative" topic is vast.

"Conservative" is a contrived word that in reality and action has no meaning. Our political terms are red herrings. Both sides have switched sides on issues more than twice. The so-called Liberals" are fascists. Nothing liberal about them. So-called "conservatives" --the GOP -- couldn't make a decision to save their asses.

I was just :poke::poke:@kathianne. We've had this discussion before. The alleged "liberals" here in TX are more "conservative" than most anyone I ever hear calling themselves conservative. Maybe if you're a Puritan or the ayatollah ....

Maybe the terms have been hijacked. Regardless, McCain shouldn't be making veiled comparisons between trump and hitler and shouldn't be defending the press right now, holding the position he holds. Course we should not be surprised given he endorsed Hillary.

Somebody should have shut McCain up years ago. Proves my point though. He'd have to run as a Democrat here. But that ass has been d*cking up sh*t since forever. He crashed 3 planes and then let himself get captured. He was a lousy pilot. That's how he got his dumb ass shot down. Then he surrendered. My dying ass THAT is going to happen.

And all he's run on is I was a POW and I want to screw up the system. He's another media created myth. He's otherwise a stupid old man that can't even go out with his gear and come back with it.

Not to a nice way to speak about a veteran. Anyone who puts their life on the line for the country gets my respect. :salute:

I have no problem with him being a veteran or serving. Of all people to say that to. I respect the fact he served. What I don't respect is him using it as a political prop. This ain't a game for us. People live and die by our words.

To have some jackass use "service" as a qualifier? I served. That qualifies me to shoot your ass. Making me President would be your worst nightmare. But I'm smart enough to know my role.

I have zero respect for him as a person.

Let's look at it this way, here on DP. As only One Veteran member here. How would ANYONE here react...as we do with bully, if I, or any other Veteran came here and spouted off about A CIC We know..respects us....FINALLY?

If you read or listen to what McCain has been saying (OUTSIDE OF AMERICA), which is an Absolute Betrayal of Standards for a sitting U.S. Senator. Even if McCain is a Hero, or Veteran like the rest of us. HE DESERVES LITTLE RESPECT for abusing his POWER in front of FOREIGN dignitaries. HE IS WRONG, and BREAKING ALL PRECEDENCES.

No argument here.

Having ideological differences is one thing, repeating the talking point of "the same McCain who considered running with Kerry" is pointless.

And complaining about "rogue" is disingenuous from a trump supporter IMO.

"Conservative" is a contrived word that in reality and action has no meaning.

When calling oneself conservative and endorsing positions that aren't conservative turns it meaningless.
