View Full Version : Trump's planned budget cuts

As expected, most of the cuts in the new Trump budget are aimed at poor people. Since it is the wealthy that support Trump the most.
One of the big cuts is that of the Legal Services Corporation, which serves those who can't avoid expensive lawyers.
At the same time when Trump is proposing less enforcement of laws protecting victims of domestic violence, citizens with disabilities and discriminatory housing practices, those affected will now have less access to legal services.
This means if you are disabled and denied access to business, or not allowed to board a plane or bus, you have no recourse unless you can afford a lawyer.

This law was enacted in 1974 and while I'm sure many millions of people have benefited from it I would still question why our government is paying for legal help. Every year various business entities lobby the government for "help", which had lead to the crippling debt we now face as a nation.

Some of the cuts that are being proposed will hurt, but these cuts IMHO are necessary if we are ever going to reduce our national debt. The American people have gotten used to "being taken care of", and just like other countries have discovered, will fight to keep those freebies. I don't want the US to resemble Greece or Argentina in a few decades. Which is why I, and many others who aren't any where near wealthy, voted for him.

Many of these useful services add up to a faction of what we pay merely in interest in one day on the national debt. Numbers are important. Trump is looking in the wrong places. End of story.

Well by all means then, lets just keep spending money like drunken sailors on leave. Which, from what I can see, would be your suggestion.

Damn petey. Some of those cuts may ruin your life, and finally make you learn how to become a Responsible citizen who WORKS for what you want, rather than depending on government to support you from Cradle to Grave.

Are you a life-long member of the ENTITLEMENT bunch? What you describe as useful services, are also the largest sources of FRAUD being perpetuated by LAZY, DEPENDENT, AMERICANS who refuse to become personally responsible for their own lives.

So, which one are you complaining for? And....before you ask for a source:

I've been a small business owner for the past 15 years. What do you do?

Am I supposed to be impressed? I know quite a few business owners. Most of them voted for Trump. As for me. I'm a 30 year, Retired Navy Veteran who just turned 70.

The only reason ANY SMALL BUSINESS owner would hate what Trump is doing, probably would have an ILLEGAL kind of business where...FOR THE FIRST TIME, that small business owner (street vendor) would be required to pay TAXES like Honest small business owners do.
So. Since you are bragging. Tell us what kind of business you claim to own? Unless, doing so would bring the DEA down on you like STINK on CRAP.

Impressed, no, but you claimed I was irresponsible and was dependent on the gov. Web development.

As do I petey. I've been a Webmaster (pro) since 1996. And, when I was active, after I retired from the navy in 1995. I had to depend on the Govt. Just as you must, for regulations, laws, and any income derived from being a Webmaster. So...if you are still in business. YOU are dependent on the govt in many respects.
If you are legally operating, and earning with a small business....the S.B.A. has a hand in what you do. Not to mention, paying income, or business taxes.

As for being irresponsible. If you are doing anything UNDER THE TABLE...that is irresponsible.
So...I am NOT impressed....STILL.

The budget value of the cuts to legal aid and the arts don't amount to the operating cost of one underused military base. Trump wants to spend billions of dollars building a useless border wall, or adding to a nuclear arsenal that can already destroy the world 100 times overs, but agrees to eliminate items that amount to less that one-tenth of one percent of the national budget.

I don't know if anyone on this board is disabled or lives on the fixed income. But if you do, this cut affects you. Let's say the government decides not to send you a check, or withholds half of it, without explanation. Can you afford a lawyer to fight for you? If you are in a wheelchair or use a guide dog, and a business refuses you service, can you afford to take action against them?

Politicians don't genuinely care about the poor. They don't contribute much to election campaigns. If you are infirm or elderly and don't have children watching over you, then you are pretty much out of luck. The new administration is coming after your benefits. They want cuts in Medicare and Medicaid. Some want a 20 percent cut on all government pensions. Civil and military. Because pensions and benefits are bankrupting the system.

Gabby. Your socialist background, and love for Hillary, and the DNC are showing.

Nearly all of your statement above is FALSE.
I am military retired...govt. Social Security...govt. AND NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE. Trump is NOT going to change anything I get, nor that of my wife.
As to the cuts in Medicaid, and Medicare....only those who are collecting those benefits who earn OVER a certain amount, just as Retired, and Social Security recipients who earn OVER a certain amount.
SO...your claims are loaded with UNDERSTATEMENTS designed to SCARE people.
A traditional LIBERAL, DEMOCRAT, SOCIALIST, MARXIST trick devised by the DNC, and democrat political LIARS.

I love it. Shift the burden back to the states. Or - get this - let people be responsible for their own success or failure.

$375m annual budget? Holyshitballs that's that money pit. Where is the return on investment to the American people? That kind of money would operate the entire post-operations for Fort Hood Texas. Think THOUSANDS of civilians and contractors running what amounts to a city.

It's half a day in interest payments. Think about it. Cutting all these programs saves you 12 hours in interest payments.

Good. Progress against obama's anti-patriotic assasination of our fiscal security.

I had to fight a line of state red-tape to get my Mom her MEDICADE kicked in.
She's the widow of two WWII vets and is incapable of fending for or caring for herself.

Her memory is so shot that she does nor remember me or my brother.

Trump will not take that away from her, the benefits that is.

petey. You keep proving how absolutely uninformed you, and thousands of other liberal crybabies really are.
The typical scare tactics you are basing your claims on are...The lack of willingness to admit...NOT INCREASING SPENDING for Entitlements in America...IS NOT a "CUT" in anything.
But, as usual, and predictable. Democrats use that SCARE TACTIC all the time to convince the Elderly, and UNEDUCATED Democrat voters that the Republicans are CUTTING funding...when...as I said. Democrats refuse to admit NO NEW SPENDING IS NOT A CUT.
So, you keep on telling yourself, like the other Lying Democrats that Republicans are pushing Old people off a cliff in wheelchairs, and STARVING children because YOU SAY SO.
