Not to be mean, but that looks like soup to me. You and my daughter would get along. I''m likr "put the damned cow on the grill". She wants to come up with all these concoctions from a cook book she stole from me no less. and I'm like if you put that meat on the grill it'll come out just fine.

I don't like food. I consider eating a chore. Juxtaposition: The things i will eat I will eat. I want meat. Not some sissy-ass PC pork and fish is better for you BS menu. I don't want the crap. I want a steak. A big ass baked potato. Shrimp along the side. (Let me know when I sound like Dennis OLeary). And I want to have a damned smoke when I'm done. What are you going to do ? Make me die?

Our dad never tells us that he loves us, only that we’re “off the hook.” He often mixes up our names with breakfast sandwiches. Sometimes we’re not even sure they’re real sandwiches, just foods and nouns he puts together in his mind, like “Cheese Ham Texas Toast” or “Gravy Boat Junction.” He keeps trying to patent “Flufferbutter,” which is just butter mixed with marshmallow fluff. His pockets are always stuffed with deli meats. It attracts wild animals and our whole family has gotten rabies more times that we can count.

Our mother says he wasn’t always like this. He used to have a regular 9-5 job working at Blockbuster, before he dyed his hair and devoted all his time to eating himself to death. He doesn’t even watch movies anymore, just videos of people frying bacon. Our family hasn’t seen a movie in seven years.

We need your help. He has every kind of diabetes. His blood is 70% caramel. Every meal could be his last. All of his doctors have either quit or gone into hiding. We are begging you, his audience: please stop watching his shows on The Food Network. He has twelve of them now and another six in production. Demand more shows about beating Bobby Flay, cooking with ingredients you’ll never find, or making children cry. We just want the dad we’ve only heard about, seen pictures of. We want to touch our father’s hair without cutting ourselves or coming into contact with bleach.

That 'soup' was steak and bar-b-que beans. So good. The sandwich was pulled pork, also excellent.

Not at all. Not everyone just eats like you, some of us enjoy sharing with friends and just spending some time. To each their own.

To me, a steak is a great slab of meat, juicy, succulent, the thicker the better, and all the more satisfying for it (w/onions, maybe, or just possibly garlic, if I'm in the mood for it). A slab of meat that you need to use a pneumatic drill on, because it's so thick. THAT is steak worthy of the name !! Anything from medium rare to well done does me .. I don't much care ...

Sir Drummond, and Gunny. No disrespect to Kathianne here, but that photo shows, what we call POT ROAST on a bun, where I grew up.
A steak...a REAL STEAK, does not get chopped up, or served on any bun unless you order a PHILLY CHEESE STEAK, where the meat is cut into smaller pieces, and never anything but Well Done.

My grandmother made it often, with boiled potatoes, her gravy, and a couple of veggies.

I seriously don't care what anyone eats, and we all eat differently. For instance ... Mexican food where you are is not Mexican food here. I hated the Mexican food in CA, AZ and NM. I'm like how can you live next door and be so different? Mexican food in IL is Taco Bell.

However ... for us Texans? If you got to doctor your steak you either got a bad piece of meat or don't know how to cook. We got lots of cows here. :)

Am I in the Twilight Zone? I mean seriously. I could could care less what anyone else ets as long as it's not disgusting and in front of me. Anyone seen the episode where they cook up some liver? I though Fieri was going to puke on camera. He had a stand in do the taste test.

Do you really think I don't know good steak? From Chicago? Really! When I go to a steak house or cook a filet I'm right with you. However, I've no problem with using sirloin in recipes from chili to beans to stew. The last would be chuck or even sirloin-as in cook long. Sirloin actually can cook long, lean though it may be.

Sirloin that's marinated or even filet make excellent stir fry.

I'm just not addicted to coals and hunks of meat with a fork.

I can't agree with these statements more. Normally, I would give the meat in question a good brushing of virgin olive oil, then coat with salt, pepper and garlic while the coals are heating up.

I'll move the coals over to one side of the grill and cook with indirect heat. That way I can sneak up on the doneness of the steak:salute:

I like AZ Mexican food. Gunny counts the sticks in IL as all of IL, he's so wrong. Lots of good Mexican places in Chicago area, where Mexicans actually live.

I actually gave my daughter a set of good pots and pans when she got her first apartment. A few years ago she said to me, "Mom, do you ever cook? Your stuff always looks new and mine?" Really? She was always there for dinner, often with a few friends. Maybe I should have made her watch the cleaning parts and not just the cooking? LOL!

She is a great cook, but she's rough on the cookware.

I actually gave my daughter a set of good pots and pans when she got her first apartment. A few years ago she said to me, "Mom, do you ever cook? Your stuff always looks new and mine?" Really? She was always there for dinner, often with a few friends. Maybe I should have made her watch the cleaning parts and not just the cooking? LOL!

She is a great cook, but she's rough on the cookware.Kids nowadays. My cookware was spotless. What noticed over the years (no offense Kath :) ) most girls don't realize there an OUTSIDE AND HANDLE on those pots n pans.

I do the military thing. Just habit. Getting sick in the field sucks. Not to mention I'm a total germaphobe to begin with.:laugh: Try THAT one always being around 2000 sloppy jarheads. I've always handwashed everything.

I totally get the clean as you go thing. I don't know any other way and I'm always calculating. What's next? Oh, I'm supposed to enjoy this meal knowing I have a million dishes to wash afterward. Same when I was an electrician. Those clowns would make a big mess with wire and conduit and not clean up. I guess they figured Mr Clean was going to miracle up their mess overnight.


And yes, I admit it ... I'm a total neat freak. :)

Well my cousins lived in the city when I was really young, moved to Oak Park when I was in kindergarten. They said we live 'in the country.' Elmhurst at the time had over 40k people, just not multi-family housing. LOL!

Past DeKalb is 'country.' I get to define it. Peoria is a town out in the sticks. Used to have heavy manufacturing, but that was gone years ago with exception of Caterpillar, which just announced the plant closing.
