...to be out of California!

I do not know how many of the members have driven U.S. 101 through the redwoods up to Crescent City.
Lovely drives through the trees and some very great views and seascapes. Yet that is the main N-S artery
for the entire coastal region.

In Del Norte County, there is a section going through Del Norte Redwoods called 'Last Chance Grade' which has
cliff side elevations up to 900 feet. That section goes from Wilson Creek to Mill Creek. The problem is that the roadway
has crumbled in one section on the South side of the grade to where there is only 1 lane and there are two active slides
on the North. CALTrans has spent millions over the past several years to repair these,
and continue to do so.

They have submitted a proposal to run a by-pass inland, but the State Government has tabled it in favor of a high speed
rail line from LA to Sacramento, which will NEVER support itself.

If that roadway completely collapses, a lot of that region will be virtually cut off. Del Norte Sheriffs, CALFire and EMS
need that route to get to Klamath. The closest LE support or EMS is 60 miles south in McKinleyville.

I do not know what the state's priorities are, but wonder if it will take someone getting killed to wake their sorry asses up.
