At first blush I thought - OMG....talk about government over-reach? Assigning a Tax on citizens the government feels should be making or could be making more money.

Now - I can still see that being implemented within US states as a means to steal more money from workers. If you are earning $60,000, but some government lackey decides you SHOULD be earning 100,000, they tax you on the higher amount. That WILL happen; am convinced of it.

But I started thinking...

Maybe the US should start taxing the under-employed. Fine them for their reliance upon government services. Like the Minsk law - fine people who remain unemployed more than six months. Find really good ways to discourage government/social services milking.

The tax which triggered the protest applies to citizens working less than 183 days a year, locally known as a law against "social parasites". Belarussians said the tax unfairly punished those unable to find work.
