WASHINGTON (AP) - Declaring a new direction in energy policy, the House on Saturday approved $16 billion in taxes on oil companies, while providing billions of dollars in tax breaks and incentives for renewable energy (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=) and conservation efforts.

Republican opponents said the legislation ignored the need to produce more domestic oil, natural gas (http://www.breitbart.com/detail.php?searchText=) and coal. One GOP lawmaker bemoaned "the pure venom ... against the oil and gas industry."
The House passed the tax provisions by a vote of 221-189. Earlier it had approved, 241-172, a companion energy package aimed at boosting energy efficiency (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=) and expanding use of biofuels, wind power (http://www.breitbart.com/detail.php?searchText=) and other renewable energy sources. "We are turning to the future," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. ...

the net effect of this legislation will be, if passed, .. a price increase at the pump...

this legislation, along with the calls for withdrawal from Iraq, just shows that the current leadership in Congress suffers from a serious case of myopia.... they don't seem to be capable of foreseeing the consequences of their legislation.

Of course, you have your head stuck up your butt up to your waist or if you subscribe to the socialist/marxist belief in class warfare, this all makes perfect sense

This is exactly what the country needs. The tax breaks that were given to oil companies are insane. With these new tax cuts for the people trying to actually help the country (alternative energy sources) our country will be able to progress for the future so we wont be in a fucking nuclear war over oil in 30 years. Any conservative complaining about this is proving how truly insane conservatives will be in order to advance economic greediness.

But then again why should it surprise me that conservatives are complaining? Their denial of scientific evidence tells them that global warming doesn't exist and we can continue to spread havoc on the earth. According to most of you, people should continue to be ripped off at the pump, and should continue to destroy the earth.

Thank god we aren’t under Republican control anymore.

Anybody who thinks that with these new taxes alternative energy sources will be explored is a fucking moron. Demos will use the new funds to fund their bloated entitlement programs such as welfare, medicaid and S.S.........oh and fund a few trips to the Bahamas.

Us? We get fucked up the ass at the pump, thanks Demos.

More cliche' crap from the naive useful idiot of the socialist party. Do you honestly believe that alternatives aren't being sought after right now as we speak? Texas A&M is growing 20' tall sorghum to use (instead of food, like corn) to make ethanol. BMW is advertising the first luxury sedan powered by hydrogen. Alternative fuel is the latest Holy Grail that everyone with a brain is working on around the world. But you, being a socialist twat, think that the government has to be in charge for the betterment of the "people".

Being a Capitalist and understanding that money is what drives people over almost anything else, I understand that we need to keep the government out of everything we want done with even a shread of creativity and fiscal responcibility. If the government is in charge we will get nothing in this century and it will cost trillions.

Your final cliche' statement shows exactly how clueless you are. All the raising of taxes will do is hurt the people you pretend to champion.... the poor.:fu:

my favorite is a study to make ethanol from saltwater growing seaweed.....imagine huge floating farms with seaweed and fish farms.....ethanol plant at one end and fish packing plant at the other....seaweed and fish feeding each other.....

pardon me....I need to go file a patent......

cool--you could power your fish packing plant with ethanol ! (Look out-they'll start taxing the water if you make big bucks at this.)
