Touching Sweeter Dreams, Memories To Hold
(A Double Acrostic)

Timeless love, romancing dreams, sweet and great
On soft dream-clouds, dancing in love's tango
Under Autumn moons, I slow waltz with you
Cases of pictures, in our home's attic
Having you with me, to always cherish

Oppression and Cruelty Meted Out By Ancient Kings

Lord and master hunted across his stolen lands
with his diamond dogs purchased with stolen loot
giving little mercy in his raging commands
head in stocks, or brutal kicks with his heavy boots

Baying hounds, he hunted through jagged rocky crags
for unmanly sport and to cure his lust to kill
he shot snipes, proudly gutted the forest's red stags
his demand, no hunt stopped until he saw blood spill.

Of English birth, proud heritage and ancient blood
brutality he learned from war's bloody fights
with boot and lash, he savaged the peasant crude
while sleeping quite peacefully each and every night.

Kings ruled with the help of titled ladies and lords.
Oppressing those thought filthy, rabble-rousing hordes.

Realizing, Yearning For Lost Youth Had Birthed Poetic Aches

Just past forest green, field of cold and hard stones
there in his youth he oft sat, rejected, sad and alone
blissful in solitude and mindful of dark world's hurt
poet in deep thought, how best to write and atone.

Creating realms to shatter earth's hardest day
well beyond this world's mass of whirling decay
in ragged jeans and older brother's torn shirt
searching, searching for life and a better way.

With pen in left hand and an armada of words
scribbling out verses, only to please singing birds
with heart's pure joy in each word gushing spurt
he deeply scrutinized all his well sprung words.

Years flew by, sanctuary was lost to worldly greeds
slowly, ever so slowly he gave way to selfish needs
his desires, he in prideful arrogance sought to convert
thus raising his own sorrows from lust's thorny seeds.

Racing back, searching for that field lonely dreams
a child again, escaping world's darkest schemes
he found, truth and joy replaced by life's great hurt
flowing forth in never ending black raging streams.

Then one fine dawn, he remembered that sad, sad place
cold stones that spoke, spoke to him face to face
regain thy true soul, plant seeds in fresh, fertile dirt
for thy youthful years, no poetic words can replace.

With far greater knowledge, his grief he forsakes
realizing, yearning for youth had birthed poetic aches
he sat there in new bought jeans and bright shirt
writing new poetic verses, during his coffee breaks.

Memories Of The Long Sad Journey

Bitter cold that Saturday morning, I could see my breath parade before me.
No breakfast as I had quietly left the house and started my trek back to our old home.
Memories flooded my brain with each new turn along that dusty road.
Along with questions about why I was now so rebellious.

Quicker, walk quicker my heart and soul demanded. Do you not want to touch the
bedroom door where your father slept? Slept before that long dark sleep.
Slept in such pain and sorrow?
Yes, bellowed back my invisible friend.

frosty morning dew
loose pebbles crunched beneath feet
earth, morning sky paled

Halfway there, with my heart racing and anticipation heightened
I could almost imagine a real touch. A real touch of he- now lost to all eternity!
What wild thoughts come to a teenage soul and mind in its greatest of pains and sorrows.
Can death be denied? Can one bring back even for the briefest moment a loved one..
A father, a father!

blackbirds silent view...
wrapped in winter's sheen
light ahead, welcomed beacon

Walking up the short drive and onto the front porch. Only gone away half a year and such change found!
Silence, silence engulfed my thoughts. Struck numb as I entered our vacated home.
Home were my father had exhaled his last breath. Hand shaking as I reach for that doorknob..
What would I see? His ghost? Would I dare touch his ghost?
Walked into a cold and lonely room--nothing!
No smile, no hug, no long awaited touch!
Only tears, tears by the bucketful.
What had I come to find? Was I crazy to want to see, talk, touch one more time?

one old shoe, lonely
broken window, dusty mounds
bleak abandoned walls

I knew, knew this was it. Life gave no overs and no going back to happier times.
The terror of that reality, would it ever leave. Would it?
Father was dead and my life was over.
I walked out into this dark world ready to fight.
Fighting to be left alone, with my never ending sorrow and its sweet cuts....
Cuts embraced to keep my rage, to yet again feel,
defeat the icy numbness in a rebellious teenager's aching heart.

A Slow Hand, Deep Thoughts And True Pen

Each time I write of my crashed hopes and dreams
mind falls into black-depths, sends cold shivers.
Tempted to falsely praise my misdeeds and schemes
I return to my vow, embracing realm of true givers.

Such leaning towards positive and the good
once was abhorrent, not in my prideful style.
When lightning bolts struck me as they should
I found my life was a massive rubbish pile.

With pen and paper I then sought truth to tell
of life, love, loss and darkness once embraced.
O' yes, I did not hide my parades in hell
nor innocent young life I once so disgraced.

Years flew by and age gave its usual aches
far too oft, I swore to give my poetry up.
Darkness whispered, take well deserved breaks
porch lounge sit, empty thy hot coffee cup.

Ah, but my muse, she heard and was not amused
up she bolted, screaming like a raving banshee.
Reminded me of my past, my life I had so abused
what a coward I would be if I now sought to flee.

Pen in hand and regretful of my wasted past
I write to send some light and truth boldly tell.
Praying some good comes, a few words may last
redeem myself from youthful days dancing in hell.

Ancient Shadows, Dreams From Love Lost Past

With gnarled trembling hands fumbling to get dressed
So old, even his dreams were slow
Yet once love embraced and his soul caressed.

Ancient shadows drifting in ancient mind,
As fierce and cold as North winds blow
Now victim of Time, best days far behind.

This world, burning sorrows into his brain,
Thirst for happiness now long gone
Was deep misery all that would remain?

Praying for Time to bring its promised end
For her touch and kiss again
He begs send me to my love, my best friend.

With gnarled trembling hands fumbling to get dressed
So old, even his dreams were slow
Yet once love embraced and his soul caressed.

In Night Dreams, We Go On, Forever True

A time, a star shining from distant view
romantic dancing, all summer with you.
A clinging, like moss on a strong oak tree
golden paradise, our time being free.

In night dreams, we go on, forever true
our world was romance and loving was new.
Under bright moonlit stars you sing again
my only one, my lover, my close friend.

A place, enchanted by your dazzling eyes
sunny rays, beach sands under blue skies.
Pray I, wondrous dreaming shall never end
blessings our past love will forever send!

Your beauty seared into feverish mind
O' that true romance, love the deepest kind!

For SilentOne's new contest.
COMPOSE A POEM BASED UPON PICTURE OF YOUNG GIRL GIVEN.

She Had Paint And Brush, No Canvas Needed

Dawn, she rose to paint agony away
placed sorrows in with colors she blended.
Painting portraits, kept her demons at bay
relieved dark blues of love that had ended.

Morn's sun, she mixed misery into swirls
cleaned her brushes to dab bright colors on.
Still yearning to be one of the good girls
she paints only what beauty has shown.

As months became years, art became her all
painted colors became her young new skin.
New beauty seen in mirrors on the wall
she felt her deep pain fleeing from within.

That splendid morn, mist had vanished away
she knew time was right, all must be finished.
As she conquered her fearful dreams that day
her soul and heart's joy were both replenished.

She had paint and brush, no canvas needed
with great skill she painted her hands and face.
Banished thoughts of how she had once pleaded
knowing that it was not she in disgrace.

With joy's tears and lavishing brush touch
every color was so carefully placed.
Life's gifts were restored and she knew this much
lost love's ache had forever been erased.

Is Parcae Crimsom, Thy Newly Found Treasure
( In Tribute to Thomas De Quincy, Suspiria de Profundis)

Why hast thee sojourned in Kingdom of Sorrows
rejected hope and promises of tomorrows?
Eyes happily closed, to life's future offers
instead choosing bitter gems from dark coffers.

Does thy joy reside in deep grief and despair
love became bad and ill winds suddenly fair?
Why seek Levana and her tribulations
over that of beauty and love relations?

Is Parcae crimsom, thy newly found treasure
soul blinded, heart so cut it can not measure?
Dare not cry, the Graces have abandoned thee
when mortal life yet breathes and thy will still free!

Hope and Love existed, when Muses where but three
both were sailing as one, as are ships to sea.
Each one gaily playing trumpet, harp or lute
sure of man's learning and Neptune's salute.

Bow not, to kingdoms from unworldly caverns
nor embrace darkness, its chaotic patterns
Return intact, with faith in mortal living
walk away from epic pain and misgivings.

NOTES: ( In Tribute to Thomas De Quincy, "Suspiria de Profundis")

1. Kingdom of Sorrows-
Mythical real , where the Three Ladies Of Sorrow
dwell.

2. Levana- From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Levana (from Latin levare, "to lift"[1]) is an ancient Roman goddess involved in rituals pertaining to childbirth. Augustine says that dea Levana is invoked when the child is lifted de terra, from the earth or ground.[2] Her function may be paralleled by the Greek Artemis Orthia, if interpreted as the Artemis who lifts or raises children.[3]

It is sometimes supposed that Levana was invoked in a ceremony by which the father lifted the child to acknowledge it as his own, but the existence of such a ceremony is based on tenuous evidence and contradicted by Roman law pertaining to legitimacy of birth.[4] More likely, Levana was the goddess who oversaw the lifting of the child by the midwife immediately after birth. Kneeling or squatting was a more common position for childbirth in antiquity,[5] and the newborn probably came to rest on the ground before the umbilical cord was cut.[6]

3. Parcae- From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In ancient Roman religion and myth, the Parcae (singular, Parca) were the female personifications of destiny, often called the Fates in English. Their Greek equivalent were the Moirai.
They controlled the metaphorical thread of life of every mortal and immortal from birth to death. Even the gods feared the Parcae. Jupiter also was subject to their power.

The names of the three Parcae are:
Nona (Greek equivalent Clotho), who spun the thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle;[1]
Decima (Greek Lachesis), who measured the thread of life with her rod;[1]
Morta (Greek Atropos), who cut the thread of life and chose the manner of a person's death.[2][3][4]
The earliest extant documents referencing these deities are three small stelae (cippi) found near ancient Lavinium shortly after World War II.[5] They bear the inscription:
Neuna fata, Neuna dono, Parca Maurtia dono
The names of two of the three Roman Parcae are recorded (Neuna = Nona, Maurtia = Morta) and connected to the concept of fata.[6]

Contest Description

What to Submit?

1 original, poem on the theme of THE POET'S EGO ... this is to be a poem about YOU, anything about you - how you view yourself, who you are, what you do, how you feel others see you, what you love, what your interests are, what you dislike about yourself, your struggles, your successes, your work, your hopes, your tears, your fears - anything, as long as it's clearly about yourself.

I want some insight here, though, and this is important, something that reflects some real introspection, or something you rarely share ... it can be joyous in the form of a success or dream, or it may be dark in the form of a struggle or hardship. EVERY poem we write is a piece of us, but I want there to be a very special piece within this work - something dear or difficult.

This will be all about how it affects the reader (me) emotionally, so be real and honest and substantive - you can't go wrong!

Any form is acceptable.

Prizes

Multiple Placements will be awarded.

Preparing Your Entry

Submit one copy of your poem online. Format your poem. Please make your entry easy to read — no illustrations or fancy fonts. Please - I am a stickler with grammar and spelling - there are MANY free sites/software with which you can check these basics, so there should be no reason for such issues ...

Poetic license IS an exception, if it's because of the style or intent. I generally don't let grammar and spelling sway my decisions, but if there are two poems of similar quality, that are very close on every other level, it MAY end up being a deciding factor. Thanks!

English Language

Poems should be in English. Poems translated from other languages are not eligible, unless you wrote both the original poem and the translation.

A Note to Poetry Contestants

You are welcome to enter this contest, whether or not you won a prize in one of my previous contests.

As I Gazed Awestruck, Thankful For Such Lush Bounty

When you directed flames- my lust anticipated
your red-lips brushed my cheek- I knew it was Fated.
Will you seek those lover's days again as oft do I,
you in mini-skirt, high black boots and gleaming eyes?

There was gentleness in your soft kiss and wet lips,
why we never slept on our overnight camping trips?
Your sexy body, loaded with heat and welcoming thighs
my mind so inflamed and your soft moaning cries!

Dawn's new lights, you uncovered in naked beauty
as I gazed awestruck, thankful for such lush bounty.
Now we gaze into lost paradise, again we lust
for fires unquenchable, once again, that loving trust.

Say, tell me, you watch for words to again meet
for love, my future vow to again lay roses at your feet!
For long nights of ecstasy and red-hot flames burning
for love's hot fires, rekindle our youthful yearnings!

It Was Winter, Ice-Cold Oaks Creaked And Moaned

It was winter, ice-cold oaks creaked and moaned
as glistening snow upon their huge trunks shone.
Powerful wind gusts their sagging limbs swayed
entire forest prayed - Spring, please be not delayed!

Once fast flowing streams, were now solid ice gripped
what devil, had this frozen icy hell tripped?
Or was it Nature exacting yearly revenge
for man's destruction, deaths it sought to avenge?
Just a wintry game, to play for the hell of it
or tragedy, so that humans would tell of it?

It was winter, ice-cold oaks creaked and moaned
as glistening snow upon their huge trunks shone.
Powerful wind gusts their sagging limbs swayed
entire forest prayed - Spring, please be not delayed!

Hibernating bears, snug in their well hidden lairs
safe from icy grip, sleeping with no worrying cares.
Fox Squirrel, safe in high, hollow leaf-filled nest
finding in those cold moaning oaks, safe-filled rest.
Other furry critters, prepared for frozen cold blasts
dens underground, that Nature's onslaught outlast!

It was winter, ice-cold oaks creaked and moaned
as glistening snow upon their huge trunks shone.
Powerful wind gusts their sagging limbs swayed
entire forest prayed - Spring, please be not delayed!

Man too, if wise found ways to hide from icy grips
inside, making few outside, snow wading trips
Yet Nature watched and its wicked blizzards sent
trying to force greedy mankind to its sins repent.
But mankind, in haughty arrogance paid no heed
for when Spring comes, he rips soil, sowing his seeds!

It was winter, ice-cold oaks creaked and moaned
as glistening snow upon their huge trunks shone.
Powerful wind gusts their sagging limbs swayed
entire forest prayed - Spring, please be not delayed!

Why Could You Not Allow Me To Just Love

I walked with you, your sweet voice echoes still
I talked with you, your sad choice was to kill
Darling, tho' we loved far more than we slept
When you fled, twas I, THAT SINCERELY WEPT!

Why could you not allow me to just love?
Why could you not allow me to just love?

Now empty halls sing your wondrous name
Since your flight, life has never been the same
In your closet, you left that one red shoe
Your past sorrow, darling I had no clue.

Why could you not allow me to just love?
Why could you not allow me to just love?

I walked with you, your sweet voice echoes still
I talked with you, your sad choice was to kill
Darling, tho' we loved far more than we slept
When you fled, twas I, THAT SINCERELY WEPT!

Why could you not allow me to just love?
Why could you not allow me to just love?

My Dearest Little One, My How Fast Time Has Flown

My dearest little one, my how fast time has flown
you came and life exploded upon us and in us too
Such trials and tribulations came with your birth
yet now, we find the treasure that is you
the songbird that sings to the TV,
the cowboy shooting loud cap-guns,
the superman, jumping from couch to couch
the little climbing squirrel in the small tree.

Years have past and your greatest gift is you
a gem of magnificent beauty in our hearts and eyes
O' the many deep worries you've put us through
yet, the blessing you are has all that overcame,
for in your eyes rests our souls,
in your hands rests our beating hearts,
in your words we hear our love returned
in your life we find ours blessed and magnified!

My dearest little one, my how fast time has flown
you came and life exploded upon us and in us too
Such trials and tribulations came with your birth
yet now, we find the treasure that is you
the songbird that sings to the TV,
the cowboy shooting loud cap-guns,
the superman, jumping from couch to couch
the little climbing squirrel in the small tree.

An Indian Warrior's Greatest Test

Having ventured, where every shadow had a name
Bearclaw watched for higher spirits and Nature's clues
Should he fail and perish, only he was to blame
For he and none other had dared to walk in his shoes

In awe of this rugged and completely unknown land
He thanked his guiding spirit for such an honored gifts
A new knife, showing emblems of his tribal band
A necklace allowing he to very quickly shape-shift

He asked the dancing winds to thank the shining sky
He begged mother earth to bless this dangerous task
He had no fear, he knew only great turtle did not die
And for strength and more courage he dare not ask

He found the black lake where the beast lay deep
Waited for night's darkness and its time to rise
Time had come, for those killed he did not weep
Hiding in silence, he wanted complete surprise

As the bright moon raced behind brother cloud
He knew the dark would bring the beast up soon
Heart beating fast, he asked only to be allowed
to kill before the clouds cleared the hiding moon

Advice Given A Friend, On The Next Lady Sought

First, be a true gentleman and be kind
if it's a good woman you want to find.
Embrace her dear heart and first let her know
you desire a love-life where both can grow!

Forget the one that cut and did you wrong
nobody wants to hear that old sad song.
Talk much more to the next lady you meet
and for goodness sake, do not ever cheat!

On that first date, do not dare to be late
for it is much better not to tempt Fate.
You be charming but in all be sincere
if she is the one, she will draw you near!

Show her that you are first a gentleman
desiring her love and a lifelong plan.

I Once Held Moon And Sky Hostage For You

Far better a lost love than none at all,
with epic pains serving well to remind-
Love and sweetness before sorrowful fall,
into deep, dark pits, broken and stone blind.
Curse so bad; unbreakable chains that bind...
love's reprieve in a dim-lit shattered mind.

While your love and morning glow spellbound me,
I once held moon and sky hostage for you-
Carved our hearts and our names in that old tree,
lost in rivers of love, once were we two.
You once kissed me and swore to say I do,
swearing to not ever say, we are through.

Now that many decades have flown on by,
I still hold out hope we can reunite-
For you, I still hold up both moon and sky,
defeat nightmare's dark warriors each night.
Dawn's bright brings our loneliness back in sight...
with sorrows deep woven in our sad plight.
Do not weep for my agonizing pain...
Unto death, this faithful heart shall remain.

Do Not Sad Weep, For Long Lost Ships

I know you too
Your heart fast beats.
Once we were new
fate, life oft eats.

Hold my hand now
chase love with me.
Yes, I know how
to live, be free.

Let nights gift more,
let dawn's sun shine.
Both hearts, one shore,
on love we dine.

Come dance with me,
swirl the dance floor.
Love is a sea,
who wants much more?

Touch my soul deep,
kiss these soft lips.
Do not sad weep,
for long lost ships.

See morn's bright dew,
wake to my touch.
Love holds we two,
need you so much!

Send love's deep kiss,
wait day's great call.
You I do miss,
why did we fall?

Bird needs its tree,
sky needs its sun.
When love was we,

I Saw Hurt Speak So Loud

I saw hurt speak so loud,
as you stood weak but proud.
Your sad eyes told me more,
red stains on your front door.

I sought to touch your soul,
stop the loss and its toll.
Win your heart, join to mine,
on sweet love we would dine.

Hope in each heart and breast,
we spoke, love did the rest.
From loss, look of ash gray,
we held hands, knelt to pray.

Spring came, we wed as two,
as love's gift was our due.
Day brought light and much more,
nights spent on safe new shore.

Life then gave joy to live,
we each sought true to give.
Now with our hearts in line,
love's depths, each day will shine.

Poet's Words, Inspired From Picture In A Book

There in ancient times, a high rocky ridge
surrounded by enchanted forest green.
To cross over to it, a rock arch bridge
much as a great painted artistic scene.

From Nature had this true beauty been made
with only immense power it oft wields.
Time and erosion, its red color oft shades
far below, sunlit flowers in meadow fields.

Poet's words, inspired from picture in a book
and all the history stored in his head.
There he lay sleeping in a rocky nook
as if resting upon a feathered bed.

What more could one want to ink flying words
about sailing ships on restful blue seas?
Or the beauty of colorful, flying birds,
sweet as the golden honey of honey bees.

In his mind's eye the nook is left behind
he treks in the forest to scenes anew.
Dawn's morning showers gifted treasures to find
matters not if it will be only a few.

Finding the meadow, its flowers in full bloom
he sat with pen and paper in ready hand.
He fills page as if decorating a room
hearing Nature's music from its own band.

Task done, the book he slowly laid aside
reviewed his words as true, found all is well.
Content, away on sailing ship he rides
resting his poet's hand for a brief spell.

End Of The Road
Why Did Wine And Music Thus Lose

Wine and music soothed our joined souls
when ebb tides washed away.
We set fame and wealth as our goals
found none in Frisco bay!

When quick passions our lost souls ate
clear waters could not stay.
Nothing stopped darkest Hands of Fate
should we have thought to pray?

Where loving-sight lost its clear views
good no longer danced.
We both fell, forgetting our dues
gone was life we romanced!

Why did wine and music thus lose
to Fate we did not choose?

We Found Paradise, Its Valleys Wide And Soft Green

When your heart sang to this downtrodden and lost man
singing birds stopped singing to hear that melody;
I was broken, walking through life without a plan
if sorrows were a joke, I was their parody.
Your kiss, healed aching pains, misery's deepest pits
before, living was raging hell, a sad lost cause,
blows falling, longer they came, harder their swift hits
life had been torment, day and night without a pause.

My darling, your gentle touch cast darkness away
dawn's sweet songs began to enter this renewed heart
each singing note, romantic blessing sent my way
we had love and life, beauty of each magic day.
Each moment a dance, a waltz that was heaven sent
I joyous prisoner of my Amazon queen;
all of my mistakes, my soul did gladly repent
we found paradise, its valleys wide and soft green.

No bars needed, love cast its beloved spell
each night this appreciative heart sang anew,
you are the rarest pearl, I your protective shell
with you by my side, gifting bliss long overdue.
In dreams, we see our future, its wondrous treasures
dance floors of solid gold, you the belle of the ball
my fantasy queen giving love's joyous pleasures
of my life before you, I now have no recall.

No Longer Sleepwalking Through Life

Sun rising, sent its ever enlightening rays
soft as a child's sweet kiss, sharp as a razor knife,
waking from decades of blinded and useless days
message of Light cried, "Stop your sleepwalking through life"
With newfound revelation, new spirit thus born
felt was earth shattering, as waves of power came
echoes then felled, mountains of saddest forelorn
replacing emptiness and sorrow with His name.

Sunset, sent were reddish gold rays of heart's content
along with blessings, greater joys in newfound peace
gone were dark, evil hours once so happily spent
replaced by the gift of imprisoned heart's release
As clear eyes saw, deep horrors once gladly embraced
new spirit danced into halls of Hope's reprieve
heart found sanctuary and old darkness replaced
by life, love and a new world that no longer grieved.

Midnight-moon, sent bright songs within radiant beams
delivering Light that spoke of love glowing hours
Nature spoke with splashes in crystal bubbling streams
and cool winds soft swaying its high reaching towers
Dreams arrive, repeating promise of life renewed
casting images that soothe, while offering truest grace
where once was blindness by evil so misconstrued
now in sleep's rest, was seen, her smiling peaceful face.

What to Submit?

1 original, poem on the theme of .your login captcha.....and use the figures in order for the beginning of each line. If there is a number or three use the letter ---7=s, 8=e etc. The only exception is the letter x, which i'm making a wild card figure, in other words any letter, you choose. But the title must contain the x, as an example all title must be haiku abc or haiku wxx, haiku 123 which would become, ott, so what ever the captcha is must follow the title haiku, you need only put the date at the bottom of the poem,,,Oh and by the way, i'm relying on your honesty, to use the first captcha of your log in , Try and stay as original as possible to the true concept of the haiku, but i am flexible somewhat on borderline..This is my first contest for 5 years, I won't go in to reason why...Harry

What Is Love

Love is radiant flickering flames of a new lit candle
Offered from one sincere seeking heart to its treasured other
Very hard to hold, if its powers are too hard to handle
Even more so, if one lover the other, loves to smother.

Epitaph Of My Old Friend, An Honorable Man

He wore not great riches nor riding cloak,
Yet stood tall and regal as mighty oak,
No haste of greedy sweat fell from his brow,
worldly wealth was to him no sacred cow:
His enemies found he knew not retreat
Yet he was a pleasant fellow to meet
He had an inner force, massive power
Stood against world, like a castle tower.

As mighty oak he withstood stormy winds
Found joy with his neighbors and dearest friends
His home a castle without guarding moat
Man of letters, he and inner soul wrote:
Poetry and songs devised to bring cheer
Whether home or at taverns drinking beer
His oath, vowing to treat one and all fair
A gentle man, yet cross him none would dare.

Had you known him and his honor so true,
Fairly he would take the measure of you,
If found worthy, happily shake your hand,
Let you hunt on his grandfather's wild lands:
Be a trusty friend, should you ask for more
From his table, his wines so freely pour
Full of vigor, to the needy he gave
One others shed tears visiting his grave.

Nightshades, Moonshadows And Howling Wolf

Thirsty for the moon, its sacred beams and eternal pull
howling to speak to this dark world, without fear
Your echoes enter, soulful bones of the insightful red-man
birthing strong growing urges to return and run truly free,
Falling upon ancient trails, foraging for red meat
and in red-heart's deepest and widest abyss,
embrace mother earth, unified into one body.

~ ~ ~

Standing atop a high and lonesome mountain crag
winds caressing one of Nature's beautiful creatures.
Notes from calls that give night and moon a pause
in that silent and golden moment, man trembles.
For then knowledge comes, here sings true freedom
having no need for the dreams of man or worldly lusts
speaking to wolf pack below, in its sad but deep felt tones.

Robert ... I absolutely love these. The challenges are such a cool way of learning new forms of poetry.

How many 1st place have you received?

Hard to give an accurate count, since about a year back, in a rage , I deleted about 120 of my poems at my poetry site. Many of those were first and second place contest winners- thus they vanished from my stored contest page. I just checked those showing there and counted 34 first place, 31 second place and I did not bother with counting any of the third, fourth and fifth place winning numbers.
Truth is many contest sponsors there have their favorites they always award first place to, regardless of reading far better contest entries.
For my having never been in one of the strong-well established cliques there I seem to do amazingly well. (knock on wood)
Better to judge with there is the numbers, quality and depth of positive replies ones poems receive there--as well as the high standard of poetic work of the poets making those comments.
And by that measure I do fantastically well, IMHO..
I was hesitant to answer only because I did not want to seem to be bragging on myself my good friend-- but since it was you asking(A fine fellow poet) and friend, I felt compelled to give as best figures as I could find on my home poetry site. -Tyr

Thank you friend..
I have always held that principle myself. Truth is not to be denied.
Yet oft truth may be so incredible that people think its a lie being told. I've down played so many things in my life
, simply to avoid being mistakenly called a liar.
And I do that because , once I am called a liar, I have no choice but respond to that insult, by showing the person making that mistake the grievous error of their way.;)--Tyr

Wear Your Courage As A Glove, Never Fear To Speak

Walk into sunshine with no fear upon your head
cast fear far away, slap back any dread.
Sample life, its mysteries and its golden gifts
sail your magic boat, sleep while it just drifts.
Watch soft-dancing moon while drinking glowing red wine
prowl seas of love, pleasantly you will dine.

Find rugged coast of Africa, sail round its Horn
sing praise and thank God the day you were born.
Ask you lover, hold tight and forever be true
tell your grandchildren what life was to you.
Climb that mountain, looking down from its snowy top
give thanks and swear truly to never stop.

Wear your courage as a glove, never fear to speak
know your rights, and admire those who are meek.
Walk righteous paths while sleeping soft in your night bed
love life's food, give thanks for your daily bread.
Hold anger back, know mercy is better instead
think Christmas joy, riding in horse drawn sled.

Live your life, live very long and peacefully well.
Wrap yourself in truth, know its best to tell.

Carpe Diem Definition
Latin expression that means 'seize the day.' Carpe diem poems have a theme of living for today.

A carpe diem poem is a type of poem that urges people to utilize their present time maximally as little is known about the future; many people are scared hence they do not succeed in life. The name of the poem originated in the “odes” which is a series of poems composed by a roman poet Horace.

Carpe diem has been majorly used to encourage and make the readers recognize the power and value of each moment however brief it is as long as it possibly exists. the main feature of this poem is the content and theme, the structure style and language takes the second place, therefore, the main focus is put on the message conveyed.

This poem has no standard way to write it, one can use any meter and rhyme scheme but the easiest way to come up with this kind of a poem is by using the free verse style as it is simple and much easier way because it has got no rules in writing it. The major elements of this poem are death, life and time.

Carpe Diem Poem Example
Leuconoe, don't ask--it's forbidden to know--
what end the gods will give me or you. Don't play with Babylonian
fortune-telling either. Better just deal with whatever comes your way.
Whether you'll see several more winters or whether the last one
Juppiter gives you is the one even now pelting the rocks on the shore with the waves
of the Tyrrhenian sea--be smart, drink your wine. Scale back your long hopes
to a short period. Even as we speak, envious time
is running away from us. Seize the day (Carpe diem), and trust as little as possible in the future.

Modern Poetry, And Its Apples

Real apples we do not ever need
give us our shallow feeds.
Spread sweeter lies on our dark toast
truth, let us burn and roast.

Your poet pen we must enslave
our blindness we must save.

Real pies let us never dare bake
let us deliver fake.
For good, we our false images make
we burn truth at the stake.

Your poet pen we must enslave
our blindness we must save.

Real art is to be repainted
its glory thus tainted.
We demand gold for shallow words
that all follow in herds.

Your poet pen we must enslave
our blindness we must save.

Real apples we do not ever need
give us our shallow feeds.
Spread sweeter lies on our dark toast
truth, let us burn and roast.

Your poet pen we must enslave
our blindness we must save.

Within Hall Of Heroes His Soul Must Surely Be

Within Hall of Heroes his soul must surely be
for courage and steadfastness surged in his veins
this he truly lived for one and all to see
he fought bravely for truth and right, not worldly gains!

As teenage youth, I did such a great man befriend
and discovered what a true blessing had been given
I was away that day his life came to an end
now mourn he that for honor had always striven.

Years flown by as I look back at such a fine man
a granite rock upon which any friend could rely
I recall campfires, fresh fish frying in a pan
And will see his smiling face until day I die!

Within Hall of Heroes his soul must surely be.
Man that taught me, takes faith and courage to be free!

Collaboration With Silent One Contest
Title omitted

Lingering light dwindles among the horizon
Twilight fades with a farewell from the sun
Shadows disappear as stars sprinkle the sky
with the moon illuminating those who walk by
Woods appear so much more ominous at night
silent blackness causing an overwhelming fright
Trees are like charcoal – inky blankets all around
as nocturnal animals hunt without making a sound
Country paths seem lifeless in the eerie dark
occasionally disturbed by a guard dog’s bark
Temperatures fall with the mid winter freeze
people feel the chill with the cold air breeze
Day light sneaks in as the sun begins to rise
the moon and stars hide away in disguise
Patiently waiting for the darkness to reappear
so they can play again, when humans disappear.

Behold in pitch black the silent phantom I seek
wanders through the crevices to take a silent peek
its pallid face behind a ghostly purple veil
one must wonder if it is from this world or Hell
Icy the winds in this slow creeping winter scene
moonlight returns, with its golden glorious preen
standing aghast, my heart shutters skipping a beat
A glimpse seen of hideous claws on phantom's feet
Never shall I again this forbidden place tread
I have discovered that its creatures are all dead
Finding in Nature such horror was not my goal
Now silent terrors grip this my unblinded soul
Lo! One can not unsee such darkness and despair
As in this growing gloom, phantom flies through the air
I search for a return path to make my way home
swearing to never again onto this path roam.

Found another poem -not finished and never entered into that contest.
And I see by the posting date of the write, that I was having memory loss issues even back then.--Tyr
