I would LOVE that.I doubt THAT. It goes right through you like nothing. I can't recall for sure, but I believe it actually disrupts your heartbeat.

Abbey. I have to agree with Gunny on this one. It may sound romantic in a way, to hear that happening...at first. But Gunny and I both know, living on a ship, UNDER a flight deck, where AIR OPS take place almost 24/7 for six months or more...SOON gets pretty old, tiring, and SLEEPLESS. Especially when (As I Did) stand 12, or 8 hour watches that rotate every three days, giving you only a small window to actually get some sleep.

Those Harriers Gunny spoke of....I remember as well aboard the USS Nassau, during Operation Desert Shield, and Desert Storm in 1990-91. We left Norfolk August 18, 1990, and the ship didn't get home until May of 1991.

That video I posted is on a carrier that NEVER STOPS launching, and landing aircraft. The only difference between being there in person, and watching the video is....YOU CAN TURN OFF THE VOLUME.
I miss going to sea, but I will never miss ENDLESS NOISE. Even when the aircraft stop...being around 5000 other people ALL THE TIME...isn't as nice as it looks.

aboutime ... I was just thinking about our previous post. I guess I wouldn't mind being at sea again .... for ONE day.:laugh: I was just remember sliding down ladderwells and looking at my knee. I don't think that would be in the game plan anymore. And that lack of sleep thing was Hell. On the Boxer, our berthing was directly under the galley. We got to hear them stomp around and bang trays all 5-6 hours of night we got. And being packed like sardines to sleep in berthing? Half the idiots snore and other half talk in their sleep.

Abbey. I wouldn't try to talk you out of it. Going to sea was always an Ironic pleasure for me. For one, I didn't like having to be away from my wife, and son's for so long, and on the other hand; there's nothing else like it (being at sea) that I can imagine doing more intentionally that I enjoyed.
That old expression about taking the sailor out of the sea, but not the sea out of the sailor...FOR ME, still applies.
My family will never understand it, much like they know I will always be a Firefighter as well. I spent 11 years, during my broken naval service, as a firefighter in my hometown before I went back into the navy.
Enjoy yourself whenever you go. It's always much more fun for just A FEW DAYS.

You are relentless, Gunny.Not at all, ma'am. Just a realist. The comment was addressed to AT and he gets it. The ships I was on were ghost towns the first week to 10 days. Everyone was in the rack and GREEN. And those of us that were not were DEFINITELY relentless giving them Hell:laugh:.
