Something that's bothered me lately is the way social media is being used, or abused, to shame people and effect their daily lives. I think it's nothing more than bullies embracing a gang mentality. Here's an article that covers two sides of this well:

http://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2017/08/15/543566757/twitter-account-names-and-shames-far-right-activists-at-charlottesville

David Clinton Wills, a visiting professor at NYU who follows social media, says he's troubled by the way that anti-racist activists are using Twitter. "Never in my lifetime did I remotely think I would vaguely defend the rights of a possibly very hateful person," says Wills, who is black and Jewish.

Nonetheless, he says "it scares me to call that activism because it seems more like a certain condemnation and a certain judgement that ironically flies in the face of democracy itself."

Wills sees a lynch mob mentality on both the left and the right when they try to use social media to shame people.

I agree with Wills, this shaming seems in too many cases to be blindly tossed around just because someone may have done or said something someone else doesn't like.

Even celebrities have been posting pictures trying to call out people they THINK were there. One professor woke up to hatred, seeing his online accounts hammered and even his home address given out!! And he was over 1000 miles away, folks just made a mistake. Stuff like that is a form of vigilantism IMO. You KNOW there are always nutters out there that may go too far once they start seeing all of this information.

Remember when social media (e-mails and message boards) were just fun hobbies? We've watched them go from that to what they have become in right around 20 years. I just didn't realize there were that many people out that try to hide their stupidity with non-stop insults.

I remember the good old days when the Internet was just for gambling and porn, now look at it, it's a cesspool.

It seems a lot of people who would otherwise be powerless now get off on the fact that they can influence other people and they don't really care if they're right or not.

Here we have a perfect example of how this is actually used.

Since 2012, the Raleigh-based activist has used social media to crowd source the identities of neo-Nazis and white supremacists and call them out for spreading racism and hatred.Smith told MSNBC’s Ali Velshi and Stephanie Ruhle on Tuesday that he feels in today’s social media-centric world if racists are no longer going to hide behind hoods then their identity should be made public.
“If they’re really so proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with white supremacists and neo-Nazis then I think that their communities need to know who these people are,” he said.

Notice what Mr. Smith said. He didn't say he was going only after klansmen and nazis, he said anyone near them is fair game. This leads me to believe that for Smith and people like him the klansmen aren't the target they're just an excuse to go after the real target which is anyone who doesn't think like him.

There's a second layer to this, and that is that the largest of the social media sites like facebook are owned by radical thinking little alt left punks like Zuckerberg, and his team that overseas his social media site are all alt left radicals as well, and you can bet your bottom dollar that what they allow on facebook is all skewed and biased towards the left. Recently they change the algorithms of facebook so that the comment that gets the most replies is first to be displayed at the top. Why did they do that? Because one of the little bubble headed leftists that works at facejoke realized that the filthiest comments being made against conservatives got the most replies from conservatives, so in their infinite wisdom and hatred of anything conservative or pro president Trump, they changed the algorithm. So now on facejoke you'll notice that much of time the top comment to be displayed, even though it has very low ratings, will be a nasty, filthy anti conservative insult but it has a lot of replies, and the longer it stays at the top, the more replies it gets insuring it stays at the top, and the leftists at facejoke are loving it because they just found a way to keep their vile leftist insults stay at the top, and that's how the alt left plays... DIRTY. Slowly people are learning, don't respond to the trolls. Also, if you step out of line as a conservative, you're going to have your comment deleted and/or your account closed. It's not the same with a leftist. The same kind of comment a conservative made but the opposite by a left, if reported, will get a pass. Zuckerberg is an absolute leftist and that's the way he runs facebook. Google, same thing, Yahoo, same thing, Bing, same thing... on and on. Leftists control the vast majority of the social media giants, and they are helping push their agenda.

Nazis, white nationalists, KKK - BAD

ANTIFA, BLM, the new black panthers, NAACP, occupy wall street - GOOD

We see the hypocrisy and double standards of the left every day... every day.
