Heart attack last night. Taken off life support today and goneBummer. He must have always had some good "stuff" because I'd have sworn he was 66 25 years ago.

Wow, and it'll barely be noticed because of the timing. :(

RIP Tom

Damn shame. Great musician. Gone too soon.

Saw him many years ago, great show.

Sad, sad heartbreaking news to me my friends. Petty, I admired more than any other singer/musician/song writer except Johnny Cash..
With me it was 1. Cash, 2. Petty and 3. Bob Seger 4. Jackson Browne.... Two of those four legendary artists are now gone....
Each of them wrote such magnificent and meaningful lyrics that had such massive influence on millions...
MAN, THIS HITS HARD, I AM STARTING TO THINK THAT I AM NOW AN OLD MAN!--Tyr

His album, Damn The Torpedoes, came out while I was in tech school in the AF at Chanute AFB. One my all time favs, brings back good memories, ole Tom Petty will surely be missed.

I'll listen to that later on Spotify in his honor.

66 is WAAAAAY too young to die.

RIP Tom Petty.

According to Tom Petty's daughter, Petty has refused to be thrown on the infamous "bring out your dead" cart.
The news first spread with an erroneous post by gossip monger site TMZ. The post was then picked up by CBS, with several news organizations following suit.
Once again, Tom Petty is not a Dead Parrot.

What can one say, when it seems irrational to feel sorrow at the passing of a person one only knows through his music?
Yet I do..
True, I met him decades ago and we spoke at a club. Maybe 6/7 minutes we talked, I was in my early 20's over 37 years ago.
Down to earth guy that was only 3 years older than me. I will not bore you with the details of our conversation but its always stuck with me.
This was before he became famous.
To me he had the same Southern spirit as did Johnny Cash.
I guess that and several songs he wrote are why I feel a loss.
Or maybe this reminds me of my own mortality and I fear for my family after I am gone..
Which is why I only slept two hours last night and began writing a very long poem--one that may take me weeks to finish..
Damn, I've always been a bit crazy-- perhaps this just points to me, going even further into that dark abyss..-Tyr
