October 18, 2017OAN NewsroomThe North Korean ambassador to the U.N. says Pyongyang has plans to launch many more satellites.
The deputy ambassador made the statement to the U.N. Tuesday, saying it was legal for the country to explore space.
Other countries see the plan as a cover since missile launches often look similar to satellite launches.
Satellites are also capable of holding a nuclear weapon or launching an EMP attack on the U.S.
The ambassador says satellites are part of North Korea’s plans for economic development before 2020, and is accusing the U.S. of blocking its peaceful exploration.
Meanwhile, several diplomatic leaders met in South Korea to discuss methods to disarm Pyongyang.
During meetings this week Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, along with leaders from Japan and South Korea, agreed to increase pressure on North Korea in hopes of denuclearizing the communist state.
In a statement Sullivan said the U.S. is still trying to use diplomacy to neutralize North Korea, but warned that the U.S. and its allies should be prepared if diplomacy fails.
These meetings come only weeks before President Trump is set to travel to South Korea during his tour of Asia.
