So my son brings his new Samsung S8 and the Oculus VR headset over the other night and I got to check it out. Well, I couldn't get enough of it. Just hard to put into words how cool it is, but you're relegated to just watching. You can look all around, left, right, up, down, behind you and all, but you can't move yourself. He also has a Sony PS4 so he bought the PS4 VR Worlds Bundle, and I've been listening to him just rant and rave about it for the past month about how much better than the S8 and the Oculus it is, because with that you can move and play games and what not but the display also, so, I know it has to be cool because I saw the Oculus, and he just wore me down, so I broke down and ordered the new Sony PS4 PRO, and that same PS4 VR Worlds bundle and it should be here tomorrow. I'll have to admit, I am excited to get it and check it out. After reading and checking out all the stuff on youtube about it and listening to the kid, I just hope I don't become a VR ZOMBIE... if I do, it'll be my son's fault...

Not yet. That definitely is the future, though.

Me: no robots, no VR, no weird tech life, period. The older I get, the more I just want to see nature and read good books.

I've just loved all the "techie" stuff my entire life. I guess that's why I liked the Air Force so much and enjoyed working on avionics instruments and flight controls on the F-16. But I know what you mean about nature, Abby, I like that too, that's why I live in a little back woods town where the woods is virtually a short walk away. I can't stand cities.

I'd love to work on a STAR SHIP too though... or FLY one... and you can do that in VR... ;)

Sad part is - most of us live virtually in some ways or others. We virtually love those around us - until those people anger or hurt us. We virtually connect with "friends". The parallels are obvious.

I'm eager to try out the tech - thanks to probably the porn industry for driving-down costs and driving-up the tech! :)

I gotta say, I want something like that badly! But hell, I haven't even been able to see/text one yet, so I wouldn't even have a clue on what to buy. Everywhere you go that has anything, you can't test. I still only have the S5 but would upgrade in a heartbeat if I knew what to do, and what I needed! I wouldn't mind starting off cheap, the way where you can only see, this way I can mess with that for a tad and see if I like it.

Your town sounds lovely.

And so does the Starship!

Only experienced it with my oldest grandson. He has a few programs, and showed me GTA, plus some Military thing with aircraft, tanks, and all kinds of weapons.

While he does it, he is competing with a friend....somewhere in Michigan, and another in San Diego.

Amazing stuff, but I gotta maintain Actual Reality first. Gettin' too old for those fast toys that make you feel.....really Behind the Times!:laugh:

Well... I had MAJOR problems with the PS4 Pro that Amazon sent. The PS4 box had been torn open from the bottom and the inside box removed, and there was a huge gash in that box... instantly my blood is boiling because this is supposed to be NEW IN UNOPENED BOX, so I didn't even open the inside box, I just put it back in the outside box, took pictures, and called Amazon and initiated a return... and I won't go into it any more than that because to say I was PISSED OFF is putting it mildly. I think these jackoffs think they can ship the B-stock and/or returns, whatever, out to the backwoods addresses because we'll be too STUPID to know any better. We'll just shrug it off... well... no... ain't happenin' at this fuckin' address.

Anyway... so I had to go up to Walmart and buy a different PS4 Pro and PAY for it, instead of having it on a payment deal on my Amazon Store Card, but after I got everything set up, as there is a MILLION damn cables and crap to hook up, I did get a taste of the VR last night, and I must say... OH MY FREAKIN' GAAAAAAWD... if you're prone to motion sickness, don't even go there. I played some of the Driveclub VR and it's SO REAL... IDK... and it's 3D, I have NO IDEA how they get it to look 3D without any of those glasses but it IS, and you can look left, right, up, down, you can stick your head out of the car window and look BEHIND YOU... OH... it's best if you sit in a SWIVEL CHAIR, you WILL need it, but it's SO REAL... just... I can't find the words. You have to see it to believe it.

I'm looking forward to a lot more of this. What fun on those cold, stuck inside winter days. You can even put any of your movies in the console and watch it as if you were in a massive movie theater.

We have a Vive and my son is pretty happy with it. However, I wasn't very happy about parting with $800.

Well I'm selling the entire works. Not because the VR isn't cool, but because the Sony VR headset fits very strange and I can't get it right. As soon as I put it on and get it situated, any little movement of my head, especially looking up, and the back slips up and the front slips down, then my eyes are too close, screws up the focus, my eye lashes hit the lenses and the whole thing is just one big disaster... so I'm selling the whole set up.

I have been doing some research on all the different VR's and have found that the HTC Vive is about the best one, and it's computer based, but they're coming out with a new one probably this month, the HTC VIVE PRO. Just so happens I put a big new PNY graphics card in my computer, so it could handle the VR without a problem. I think that as soon as I sell this Sony stuff I'll buy the HTC VIVE PRO.

This looks like it has a lot of detail, and it's the HTC VIVE... the new pro has almost DOUBLE the resolution of the Sony VR...

Have the PSVR, and it is unreal how intense the games can get - of special note are Eve: Valkyrie, and Resident Evil Biohazard. Once they really nail this technology (especially with regards to the number of wires needed) it’s gonna be great.

I had a Sony PS Pro with VR, but the VR headset never fit my head well. As soon as I got it adjusted it would slip and then the focus was off, my eye lashes would hit the lenses and cause smudges, and although my vision isn't bad, I didn't like having to wear my glasses with it either, and I never liked the heavy cables attached to it.

I have an Oculus Gear VR for my Samsung S9 and that's not bad. It has a focus also so there's no need to wear glasses, and it's bluetooth so no wires attached. But what I would like to try is the new HTC VIVE PRO, but at $1,100 a pop, I don't want to try it that bad.

VR is cool though, and for those who've never tried it, I'd recommend give it a try.

I am quite certain that all brands of VR support pornography, as there is no way to restrict what you put onto the display.
