Sarah Silverman ‘Scared’ And ‘Shaken’ At Sight Of American Flag

Comedian Sarah Silverman said in the latest episode of her Hulu show that she was “scared” and “shaken” when a former boyfriend put up an American Flag in his front yard.

Silverman’s show is ironically titled, “I Love You, America With Sarah Silverman,” but in this week’s episode Silverman explains why patriotism and American exceptionalism freaks her out.

Silverman opens the show with a monologue about the time her ex-boyfriend decided to raise an American Flag outside of his house, recalling how disturbed she was by the event.

“I had a boyfriend many years ago, he was my first boyfriend who had his own house, and one day I went outside to see what he was doing, and he was hoisting an American flag up the flagpole in his front yard,” she remembered. “And I instantly felt very weird. It didn’t make sense, but I felt this feeling of like, um, I felt scared – yeah, I felt scared. ”

Silverman said she asked him why he was putting the flag up, and he responded, “because I love America.”

“I was like, ‘Right, right, of course.’” she said. “But inside I was shaken.”

I've heard the Novel Dracula is actually quite scary.It is actually extremely tedious, verbose, and boring. The story is written through journal excerpts in the first person. Johnathan Harker's part is okay. The Doctor is a complete bore. It's very atmospheric and WAY overly-melodramatic. The ending is anticlimactic.

Not a single movie is even close.

Quite coincidentally I just TODAY read thru the novella "Carmilla" by Joseph Sheridan LeFanu, who really is a gripping writer. This was published in 1875, and the Bram Stoker work was not published until 1897, but wow, no question that LeFanu got there ahead of Stoker. And it was VERY creepy, I recommend it to vampire cognoscenti. Hope I spelled that right. I'm surprise LeFanu doesn't get more credit. All the tropes are there, including the stake and the teeth at the neck. I'm okay with Dracula, but Carmilla was even better. And shorter: something to say for that.

Marines are US Navy personnel. Our officers go to the Naval Academy. At some point, the candidates/Midshipmen declare whether they are going green or blue (Mrine or Navy). I don't know exactly when.

The services used to have teams that toured as promotional gimmicks. We also had unit teams where we beat the crap out of each other. PC killed it. Too many injuries and people whining about it so they did away with the promotional teams and intramural teams. As an official unit activity you can play flag football. Unless they've done away with that too.

I played for my battalion until I came back from one deployment and it was gone.
