Report: Paul Ryan Is Considering Retirement After 2018 Midterms

A new report published Thursday indicates that House Speaker Paul Ryan may be retiring in the near future.

According to Politico, “Ryan has made it known to some of his closest confidants that this will be his final term as speaker.”

The report also indicates that Majority Whip Steve Scalise and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy have begun to plan to replace Ryan as speaker.

Ryan has faced a number of challenges as House speaker.

His March push to repeal Obamacare faltered, leaving his reputation damaged. And he has no shortage of challenges ahead, including preventing a government shutdown and finding a permanent solution for illegal immigrants protected by DACA before it expires next spring.

Bummer: Rumor that Paul Ryan Was Retiring in 2018 Was Just a Rumor

The Politico published a rumor this morning the GOP elite and amnesty advocate Paul Ryan was retiring in 2018.

Despite several landmark legislative wins this year, and a better-than-expected relationship with President Donald Trump, Ryan has made it known to some of his closest confidants that this will be his final term as speaker. He consults a small crew of family, friends and staff for career advice, and is always cautious not to telegraph his political maneuvers. But the expectation of his impending departure has escaped the hushed confines of Ryan’s inner circle and permeated the upper-most echelons of the GOP.

But it was a false alarm.

Paul Ryan’s spokesman says the rumor published in Politico was not true.

“This is pure speculation. As the speaker himself said today, he’s not going anywhere any time soon.”

We should have known it was just a bad rumor — Ryan needs to pass amnesty before he leaves office.

More fake news?

There sure is a lot of it.

When I heard of this I assumed Ryan was retiring to run for president. That's usually what they do --- Hillary Clinton retired from the Senate for that reason.
