It seems to me the liberal media and Dems are trying to make Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito a campaign issue in 08

Is it because they do not make law from the bench and they follow the US Constitution?

Yes. Liberals advocate for a "living, breathing constitution", one which has the property of conveniently evolving into whatever liberals need it to be whenever they need it to do so. Justices like Roberts and Scalia ruin this mockery of jurisprudence by actually enforcing the language of the Constitution, and by extension protecting the principles of rule of law and limited government.

Listening to the left, the US Constitution has more positions then a Bill Clinton intern

It is sad to watch
