A former state department employee and former advisor to U.S. Military operations in Pakistan says sums up the foreign policy of recent past administrations with one word–“fear.” Armand Cucciniello says that President Trump “stands in stark contrast to that mentality.”
Cucciniello worked on the ground during the Obama Administration from 2010-2015 advising U.S. military operations in Pakistan as part of a Department of Defense funded program. Cucciniello says that, based on his experience with the country, Donald Trump’s position is “spot on” and exactly what the U.S. needs to do in order to coerce Pakistan to end supporting terrorism in South Asia–a problem that has plagued multiple administrations.
According to Cucciniello, the main concern with Pakistan is the country’s support of the Haqqani network that is essentially an arm of the Afghan Taliban and part of the Pakistan Intelligence services operating in Afghanistan. The former Bush state department employee said that both the Bush and Obama Administrations were aware of this network but took a very different approach than the current administration is considering. “The Obama administration’s approach seemed to be more like we’re going to give you this and we’re going to hope and pray and beg for you to stop doing that,” explained Cucciniello.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Sending aid to people who hate us always seemed stupid to me anyway.
