Until Gabriel Blows That Sounding Horn

What of long treading years, in a vast wasteland spent,
guilt for shamelessly trekking along on safe trails
Was such the life for decent, true and brave men meant
or vacant treasury of a sad life that fails?
Do such mercenary lusts, placate such lost souls,
where hearts languish in invisible prisons deep
Is it best to live as burrowing blind moles
or best to live our dreams when we are not asleep?

What of sacrifices of those we most admire
their many cuts and bruises fearlessly endured
They that themselves put their own feet to the fire
rather that walk seeking life boringly insured
What of a Bowie, Crockett, Jackson or a Boone
think they had such well known adventures without pain
Life is for living, it is over far too soon
be not those playing along seeking no hard strain!

If not for such brave, hardy souls where would we be
what freedoms and immense futures would we now hold
True freedom demands blood from those who would be free
which is why such great heroes stories are oft told!
Dark world commands that we must for freedom defend
our dear lives, hopes and magnificent dreams thus born
If at such sad costs, to hell we must others send
we should do so, til Gabriel blows sounding horn!
