In a rare showing of bipartisanship, Senators Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer announced they have reached a federal spending agreement.
The Senate majority leader and top Democrat made the announcement from the floor of the upper chamber Wednesday, saying while its not perfect — it is a bill they are both proud of.
The bill includes a spending boost for defense, infrastructure, and disaster relief. It also allocates six billion dollars toward fighting the opioid epidemic.
The agreement also extends the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
The bill now goes to the House, which passed their own legislation Tuesday evening.
While it is unclear if the agreement will pass the House, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said she will not agree on any budget deal that does not protect DACA recipients.
