Just a week after the anniversary of George Washington's birthday, strong winds knocked down a 227-year-old tree that the founding father himself had planted at his Mount Vernon estate.
The Virginia historical site was closed in anticipation of the 60 mph winds that hit the area Friday, but the Canadian hemlock tree and a Virginia cedar that stood watch over Washington’s tomb didn't survive the severe wind storm. ...

Trees fall.

Huge redwood fell during wind and rain:

Some of those monsters are over 1000 years old, so the ones at Mt Vernon are a pittance in comparison.

One of those huge redwoods fell in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park that registered 2.1 on the Richter Scale
when detected by the implanted seismograph there in the park.

I think he was posting tongue-in-cheek.

:)

Mt Vernon is a beautiful place. When the zombies cleanse Virginia I think I may secure that place as my hold-out.

Well, it's at least a sign that the ground is soaked, full of water from the storms. We got a message from County Emergency by email to expect down trees because of the saturated ground, last week. We did lose an apple tree that way, but it was old and weakened.

We were out two days, altogether, power and Comcast, and here comes another one. :uhoh:

Your bug-out place? Huh, good idea. They would have a lot of old-timey tools and cooking equipment. If you and a crew can defend it, ideal.
