UPDATED 6:15 AM PT — Mon. March 12, 2018The Russian government unveiled a video demonstrating a new nuclear weapon it claims can pierce U.S. missile defenses Sunday.
Russia successfully test launched what it calls the “ideal weapon” called the Kinzhal Hypersonic Missile.
“President Putin has confirmed what the United States government has known all along, which Russia has denied…Russia has been developing destabilising weapon systems for over a decade in direct violation of its treaty obligations,” announced White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “President Trump understands the threat facing America and our allies in this century and is determined to protect our homeland and preserve peace through strength.”
The high precision warhead is capable of traveling five-times the speed of sound, and is designed to eliminate targets on the ground and the sea.
Earlier this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the existence of the weapon during his New Years address.

“This is a bypassing of defensive lines. Due to its unlimited range it can maneuver for an unlimited amount of time. As you understand, nobody in the world has anything similar. Some day they might have it, but by that time our guys will invent something else.” — President Vladimir PutinPutin has been accused of reviving a Cold War style arms race for nuclear weapons, which is something he denies.
Instead, he blames former President George W. Bush for backing out of a missile treaty back in 2002, which allowed the U.S. to build-up its missile defense system.
“As you see, we didn’t keep our plans a secret — we talked about them openly to encourage our partners to negotiate…I repeat, we talked about it in 2004 already,” said President Putin. “It is surprising, but despite all the problems that we faced in the economy, finance, defense industry, and in the military, Russia remains the largest nuclear power…they didn’t listen to us, so listen to us now.”
Trump administration officials and the State Department have expressed doubt on the weapon, and have warned any attack on the U.S. will be met with overwhelming force.

I wonder you improve on mutually assured destruction? I bet Putin wishes he had what he claims he has. You can't beat a submarine's defense system since it's the whole ocean and what good does piercing a missile defense system do if your own defense system sucks?

This dude. Saddam Hussein on steroids
