"Supreme Court Hands Trump Defeat on Deporting Criminal Immigrants – Gorsuch Sides With Liberals on Court..."

"Trump nominee Justice Neil Gorsuch sided with liberals on the Supreme Court to hand President Trump a defeat on his plan to deport criminal immigrants."

***The Supreme Court was conflicted on the definition of violent criminal actions.***

>>> This was an old case where the court came to a 4-4 tie.
Gorsuch sided with the Democrats this time.

READ:

`The Supreme Court said Tuesday that part of a federal law that makes it easier to deport immigrants who have been convicted of crimes is too vague to be enforced.

The court’s 5-4 decision — an unusual alignment in which new Justice Neil Gorsuch joined the four liberal justices — concerns a catchall provision of immigration law that defines what makes a crime violent. Conviction for a crime of violence makes deportation “a virtual certainty” for an immigrant, no matter how long he has lived in the United States, Justice Elena Kagan wrote in her opinion for the court.

The decision is a loss for President Donald Trump’s administration, which has emphasized stricter enforcement of immigration law. In this case, President Barack Obama’s administration took the same position in the Supreme Court in defense of the challenged provision.

With the four other conservative justices in dissent, it was the vote of the Trump appointee that was decisive in striking down the provision at issue. Gorsuch did not join all of Kagan’s opinion, but he agreed with her that the law could not be left in place.`

`The solution now is to implement the same law....without being so vague...Hopefully the administration will clarify and re-submit......

Shocking. Gorsuch going with the Constitution, indeed reaffirming what Scalise had said prior to death.

And what part of the constitution is it that covers illegal aliens?

I didn't think non citizens had constitutional rights.

And I thought the president was within his authority on immigration.

And I thought the president was within his authority on immigration.

First, he was here legally, he is a legal alien. Second, their problem was in defining violent criminal activity, seems law enforcement was going for a nebulous definition.

The decision isn't really as big of a deal as folks are making it...

The left and the media are exploiting it in an effort to make Trump hay, and the Trump supporters are twisting because they can't believe Gorsuch could betray the dear leader... Shouldn't be long before Trump starts Tweeting about seeking Gorsuch's resignation...

The truth of the matter is simple, the whole thing turned on a decision from 2015 that struck down a similarly worded part of another federal law that imposed longer prison sentences on repeat criminals. The majority opinion in that case was one of the last written by Justice Antonin Scalia...

Gorsuch is doing the right thing, just as ALL OF US WANTED, by adhering to the Constitution.

He hasn't created any problem for Trump, or WE THE PEOPLE. Everything will be re-written, and re-visited by SCOTUS...just as it should be. Sadly for the FAKE NEWS bunch, and Trump Haters who want it to be a problem for Trump. Democrats have prevented people from having access to HONEST, and TRUTHFUL knowledge, and information. This time...they can only enjoy a brief smile, and CROSS THEIR FINGERS behind their backs....like the Hypocrite, Liars they are.
