~ "A former 911 operator in Houston who hung up on thousands of people contacting emergency services has been sentenced.
Crenshanda Williams, 44, was found guilty on Wednesday following

a trial in Harris County of interference with emergency telephone

calls after repeatedly hanging up the phone while working at the

Houston Emergency Center (HEC) before she was caught and fired

in August 2016, reports Click2Houston. (https://www.click2houston.com/news/former-houston-911-operator-faces-probation-for-systematically-hanging-up-on-people)
Suspicions were raised when an audit of 911 calls to the HEC

noticed a high volume of “short calls”—lasting less than 20 seconds—which were taken by Williams." ~

Probation? Excuse me, but one or two instances might be grounds for probation,
but (as the article says) Thousands?

Time in the slammer is more appropriate. That lazy piece of crap pretty much
single-handedly destroyed the public's trust in the emergency response system.

I read that the judge sentenced her to 10 days in the pokey. Plus probation.

IMO, for thousands of hang ups, when people call 911 for emergency help - she should get a few years in the slammer.

Our Command Centers are pretty much the same as a domestic 9-1-1 call center.

Yeah, we would get a lot of calls that did not belong there, but we would redirect them
to the appropriate office or agency.

One thing I would NOT do was connect them to another number. We were SAR and LE
watchstanders, not telephone switchboard operators. Some got a bit hot under the collar,
but so what? Even in the telephone listings our number was shown as an emergency number.
Getting a renewed ID Card, for example, was NOT an emergency. The listings even showed the
number for the unit telephone list.

10 days is pretty light considering the volume of disconnected calls attributed to this individual.

Very likely.

Pretty terrible supervision! I would think they need to clean house, get better personnel all around at that 911 facility. Nobody knew she was doing that??? Darn.

Every call is recorded.

I wonder how often the managers even bothered to review the taped logs.
Sounds like a shoddy operation all around.

Probably very Liberal 'Diverse` hiring Policies ...instead of using good testing procedures to find the best people for the Job....
