UPDATED 11:02 AM PT — Mon. May 14, 2018The Supreme Court rules the federal ban on sports gambling is unconstitutional.
On Monday, the six-to-three ruling stated the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection (http://www.oann.com/scotus-rules-sports-gambling-legal/#) Act violated the so-called anti-commandeering rule.
The new verdict now gives states the power to legalize sports betting.

The lawsuit was brought forth by former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
In a tweet Monday, he supported the decision and said he is proud to have fought for the rights of the people.
GOP Senator Orinn Hatch, one of the original drafters of the sports betting (http://www.oann.com/scotus-rules-sports-gambling-legal/#) ban, said he will now introduce a bill for regulated and legal athletics gambling.

DACA. Obamacare. Sanctuary cities. A Congress in violation of the law by not passing a budget on time and pushing up against next year. Lower courts overruling the President of the United States in enforcing Federal law.

And WHAT does the Supreme Court of the United States give us? Sports betting. :bang3:

I don't know about constitutionality of it but sports gambling destroys a lot of lives.

Age old debate I guess.

Age old debate I guess. Not much of a debate. I agree. It destroys lives. I don't gamble. I've bet on sure things, but that's about it. Wonder what the line was on that Cowboys-Redskins game in 1989 when the the Skins were 13-0 and the Cowboys 0-13? Must have been some SERIOUS crying when the Cowboys won

I shrug at whether or not it is controlled, illegal or whatever. Since when did the law matter to anyone? Seems to me most people and especially addicts and their enablers obey only the ones they want.

I was thinking more along the lines of this country is just flat f*cked. None of the other issues I mentioned matter. Sports gambling though ... we can rule on THAT.

How about states that have decriminalized marijuana? I have no issue with pot, but the fact remains it's against Federal law to possess, sell or use it.

And the best the Supreme Court can do is rule on sports gambling. We could probably cut our deficit in half if we started paying the Supreme Court and Congress per production instead of time.

A few of them got so hooked with gambling, they lost their family within months, spending their entire paychecks at the casino's, and some even had to call, asking for enough cash to get back to Pa. They later lost their jobs, their cars, and several ended up with divorces.

GAMBLING of any kind is, and can be a Disease. States with legal lotteries have higher rates of divorce, crime, and even alcoholism because of gambling.

If government politicians are FOR LEGAL GAMBLING...they stand to make MONEY from US.

I mean the same questions can be raised about alcohol but for some reason alcohol is more acceptable. Probably because it's legal.

[QUOTE=Black Diamond;907209]Alcohol and tobacco built this country, regardless the propaganda against both. Alcohol is not only legal, the alcohol lobby has kept pot illegal to squash competition. Back in the day, I would smoke weed before I would drink. Like you said, drinking is legal and the military will give you a discount on booze and piss test you and bust you for pot. Not a hard choice if you're planning on staying in.

Alcohol is also a cultural thing. We have glamorized drinking; especially, since Hollyweird got on the bandwagon back in the 19-teens. It's cool to have a drink in your hand and until the 1970s, a smoke in the other.

I mentioned in another thread, heroin use has skyrocketed in NY since the government clamped down on prescription opioids. Addicts are going to get their opium one way or the other and while everyone likes to come out and act like it's new, opium has been a problem for centuries.

It's a personality type and not all addicts are addicted to the same thing but the basic premise of addiction is the same.
