darin might like this... I might trade my big new truck in on this...

I doubt I'll ever follow through the idea of buying a trailer and pulling it down south with the truck each winter. I think I'd be much more prone to just drive down and rent something. So, why have TWO trucks? I think I need a hotrod before I'm too old to enjoy it.

Don't know why they say the SS is an 8 speed auto on the website, it is indeed a 6 speed manual. I know, I drove it, and you can see in the pictures it's a manual also. The thing is an absolute BEAST... a MONSTER... a pavement blistering BARBARIAN. I love it. I've been itching to get another hotrod for a long time.

With your back problems? Hope you got good knees too. My brother has always had sports cars like that. I feel like I'm climbing down to get in. I basically have to pull myself out of my daughter's car by my arms.

When I downsize I'm going from my truck to a Jeep. No cars. I don't even know if I can drive a car.

It is nice though.

My back ain't that bad... Knees are good.

I've been an incurable hotrod my entire life, and contrary to what many might believe, you NEVER outgrow it. It's in your DNA. I've had a bunch of hotrods in my life, and that's why I ultimately became a Harley Tech. But it's been a long, long time since I've had a hotrod. I was around when they were having their "coming of age," and all the huge horse power asphalt burners back in the early 70's. Then the fuel crap hit and emissions controls so all the horse power disappeared. Compression ratios dropped and all those muscle cars turned into gutless piece of crap. So like a lot of people, I didn't have a hotrod for many, many years, but with all the new technology they've been able to figure out how to increase the compression ratio again and get that horse power back and still have a clean low emissions engine.

I'm going to be 63 in July... I'm thinking one last bad to the bone hotrod before I'm too freakin' old to enjoy it.

Been pouring over the numbers and near as I can figure, my truck has an NADA trade in value of $39,275.00, and that doesn't even include a few goodies I've added to it, like the factory Chevy mud flaps, and a K&N air cleaner filter, and doesn't include the LUND bed cover, etc, but I think I should actually come out with a nice chunk to my credit on the existing loan balance I have now on the truck, and if I just refinanced, my monthly payments should actually go down. If they play fair with me, and they should, I've bought 2 high dollar rides from them already, then the car is mine. But if they hit me with a deal where I actually owe MORE, then I'm just going to laugh and say "forget it." I know for a fact that every month that car sits on that lot, and with it being a 2017 it's been sitting there awhile, they LOSE MONEY. So I'm counting on them being VERY motivated to sell it. I'm going to be looking for a DEAL, and I know damn well my truck would be 50 times easier to sell than that car, and SELLING vehicles is where they make their money, NOT the service department. I learned that working at Reno Harley Davidson. Good used trucks FLY off the lots around here. There's more trucks on the roads than cars.

I had a 1975 Camaro long ago, like 1990. Didn't look to bad but the underneath was ate up by the salt. One day the front of the one of the rear leaf springs nearly came up through the floor boards. The front mount had rusted clear to pieces. That's what happens to vehicles around here... FUCKIN' SALT in the winter. But I loved that car. It was really fun to drive. Had a 350 in it, 4 barrel, dual exhaust, just enough to at least have a little fun in. I sold it, rusted as it was, some kid wanted it bad.

I'm not in that bad a shape. Yeah once and awhile my back gives me problems, but it doesn't last forever. But it might later in life, that's why I'm figuring enjoy one more hotrod now while I can.

I've pretty much made up my mind. It's all going to depend on the deal.

My truck may as well be a hotrod. A GMC 3/4 ton with a 6 ltr 8 under the hood. I'd have to add weight to the rear to keep the wheels on the ground.

I just never care for cars. I'm way up here and you're way down there sitting on the street. If you rear ended me you'd probably clear the rear bumper to the tires

I'll always have my 1997 GMC, 350 with lots of goody upgrades, 6 inch Pro Comp lift, 33" BF Goodrich A/T, rear posi, 5 speed... on and on... see that's also playing into buying the Camaro, why the frick do I need TWO trucks? And yes, my Chevy is a huge 3/4 ton just like your GMC, got the 6.0ltr, 360hp, 380 ft lbs of torque, rear locker, LTZ with the Z71 off road package, has every damn bell and whistle you can get on one... I don't need it. And I think the same thing you do when I'm in either of my trucks... if someone runs into me they're going UNDER me. I might get a little lift but they're going to be DECAPITATED. I'll go home, they'll go to the morgue.

Funny you should say that... my neighbor has a 2010 Dodge Challenger. Pretty car, blue with flat black stripes, nice mags, 350 Hemi, 6 speed... and he's had NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH IT. My God I can't COUNT the number times he's had that freakin' LEMON in the SHOP. And he said, "forget the Camaro, save yourself $20K and buy my car." Ya... I LAUGHED... Ok, I’ll be blunt- they tend to drive like they are over-compensating for a less than ideal-sized you-know-what. Cutting in and out of traffic for no apparent reason, darkened windows, extra loud muffler, look- at- me paint jobs. Of course, all kinds of cars have drivers like that. It just seems to be an epidemic with Charger drivers.

My daughter is the one who actually pointed this out to me!

Sorry for anyone here who drives like that.

I can see that...

I had to call my insurance and discuss buying the Camaro with them, and they said ins would be around $94 a month. So long as it wasn't over $100 I'm good. The truck is already $74. But as far as the way I drive that Camaro goes, like I told my ins guy, I'd drive it like I do all my vehicles, with respect. I told him 5 years from now the car might have 7 or 8 thousand miles on it, that it'll sit in my shop more than anything else, and if I decided to sell it the salesman could tell a prospective buyer that it was owned by a little old lady that only drove it to church on Sunday, and it would be believable... ... I'd baby it for sure. Of course I'd have to get my foot in a little here and there, but you wouldn't catch me roasting the tires off doing hole shots and that sort of nonsense. I think it would be fun knowing that others know what the car is capable of, that it could suck their headlights out with little to no effort, so there's no need to prove it.

My little 175hp Mini sees more speed than Super/Muscle cars - like...all the time. I pass 100mph every day to and from work. :)

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Giving a MAJOR muscle car to a little kid? First, must be nice to be RICH, and second, he'll wrap that thing around the first telephone pole.

When I worked at Reno HD, we'd see these "adults" come in and want to instantly be mister bad ass biker, and they'd buy a brand new bike and send it back to us in the service department and we'd bolt on a shit load of go fast goodies, like a big bore stroker kit and all the trimmings, race tune, the works, some would leave with 125 HP plus, and these guys that have never ridden in their life but have a pocket full of money would come and get on these bikes, and then CRASH THEM a half dozen BLOCKS AWAY or less, and I'm not shittin', saw it happen 2 or 3 times a year.

No offense Sassy, but I think it's HIGHLY irresponsible to give a MASSIVE muscle car to a KID with ZERO experience. I would almost GUARANTEE he piles that car up, and quite possibly kills himself.

Fire engine red 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD w/6.0 ltr V-8. I haven't done a lot to it. That was your FIRST CAR? Wow... at least it had the V-8 in it.

We had a little 1969 Scout with the 4 banger in it. Believe it or not, that 4 banger propelled that little Scout right on down the road pretty dang good. The thing was unstoppable too, we couldn't get it stuck. I think the only reason my Dad ever bought it was because I bugged the heck out of him to buy a 4 wheel drive. He really liked it after he bought it. We rescued my sister and Mom one time from clear across Madison in a major blizzard. Cars stuck and in the ditch everywhere and that little Scout just plowed along, in some deep snow, and apparently my Dad wasn't satisfied when we got near our house so he drove off the road into the ditch and ditch ran for a bit, and still couldn't get the little Scout stuck. We were ALL liking it then.

My first car was a hand me down from my parents, a 1966 Dodge Monaco, FOUR DOOR. They gave me a price I could afford and it was a car, so I bought it, but the first thing I did when I could afford it was buy a hotrod. At one point I had 3 cars. A 1970 AMC AMX, a 1969 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, and a 1967 Chevy Chevelle, with a Vette engine in it.

The color is "fire engine red". It's a bit brighter. My truck was the first year they had the Heavy Duty model and the 6.0 litre engine. Basically, I bought an experiment

GM always tests their trucks out as GMC's to see if they will catch on. If they do, you will find a spiffier version in the Chevy Silverado; which, is exactly what happened with the HD. All of the big American auto makers used to do that. Oldsmobile was the test run for Buick. Ford was the test run for Mercury. GMC for Chevy.

In 17 years I have had to change the oil, replace the battery a couple times and change out a burnt out light bulb. Oh, and new tires and I DID ditch the factory rims as quickly as I could. Other than that, I've had zero issues with it. Most importantly ... it's paid for. THAT alone keeps me hesitant to get anything new. I really don't need a 3/4 ton pickup to run back and forth to the store. When I got it, I was doing commercial electrical work and owned my own house so it came in quite handy.

Yeah actually I think where the "Jimmy" caught on was the little 1/4 ton 4x4 thingie... so... GMC! ... ;)

That 6.0 ltr is a beast of an engine, bullet proof... damn good motor. I have the same thing in my 2015. The thing I really like about the 3/4 ton 6.0 ltr is it doesn't do that 8 to 4 to 8 to 4, back and forth shutting off half the engine crap. All the half tons do, 3/4 tons don't. The 3/4 tons have the nice 6 speed heavy duty automatic transmission too, and the half tons have that freakin' weird EIGHT SPEED. I wouldn't buy a new half ton, seriously, I don't want half my frickin' engine inadvertently shutting off, and I don't need EIGHT friggin' gears in the tranny. I have a couple friends that half bought the new 2018's with the 6.2 ltr and 8 speeds, and all I hear them do is BITCH. They say the trans hunts around for gears and feels weird most of the time, even my 6 speed does sometimes, I couldn't imagine an 8 speed, in a SMALLER truck... how stupid.

Mine's a 2x4. I learned from 4-wheeling you don't need a 4x4 hardly ever unless you're 4-wheeling. Yes, it can come in handy that one time you need it, but around here you just don't need it. Even when I was in IL and there was 14" of snow and ice on the ground I didn't need it. Knowing how to drive and use the truck is more important to me.

Funny story. When I went from Okinawa back to 29 Palms they said , "Ha ha, you have the drive the Capt when we go out in the field". So let me get this straight: You're going to put me in a Jeep (we still had those Ford "Mutt" Jeeps), in the desert and we're going camping and shooting? I do believe this little gutless 1/4 ton GMC 4x4 is where the "Jimmy" thing started...

That's true, you don't really need a 4 wheel drive in TX. The state is virtually all flat and it never snows there. Different story around here in the hills in Wisconsin. Not many 2x4's around here period, everything they sell is 4 wheel drive. Hard to find a 2 wheel drive truck around here in fact.

P-L-E-A-S-E don't throw me in that briar patch, Brer Fox!
I don't believe I've ever seen one of those Ford Jeeps... in fact I know I haven't.

My brother drove his commander around in a Jeep when he was stationed in Germany in the Army. They had given him a desk job after Vietnam and he loved it. It didn't last long but he said if he could have stayed in Germany at that job, he'd have reenlisted.

Exactly right, Chevy small block with 2 cylinders cut off. They were true boat anchors. The carberated versions were absolutely worthless.

If you got a weak engine, you'll be pulling 30 mph by the time you get to the top of one of these "hills". I HATED driving the company truck to Kerville. That thing had about as much guts as Obama. I finally told them f you, let the helper drive. I'm taking my own sh*t.

If I lived in the country I would completely revisit that whole 4x4 thing. When considering it though, I hardly ever go off road and I lived on the edge of San Antonio because the work was in town. I'd have much rather lived outside the city.

Probably never saw the Jeeps because you zoomies like to drive around in those blue pickups. It's a Vietnam-era Jeep called a Ford "Mutt" because whoever owns Jeep owns the trademark for the name "Jeep" (which is actually military slang for G,P. - general purpose vehicle. When Ford got the contract, they could use neither the mname nor the grill which is also trademarked.

So the Mutts look and act like Jeeps and we called them Jeeps. They are noticeable because the grill slots are horizontal instead of vertical.

I'm tired, long day... going to "play" with it tomorrow, see what I can figure out with all these options... found out this Camaro was custom ordered by the owner of the dealer... but just babying it coming home... words can't describe... this thing is WICKED powerful.

455 horse power 6.2 liter, 6 speed manual with rpm matching, if you want, has "cut outs" on the exhaust for STRAIGHT THROUGH "racing," and it's LOUD, has digitally controlled magnetic ride sensing, "TOURING, SPORT and TRACK" modes... I'm in hotrod heaven... drove it around some more and even babying it, it's just WICKED powerful... has a 6,500 RPM red line and I haven't even hardly gone over 3,000. They say it doesn't need any engine break in time, but I'm not good with that. I'm going to baby it for at least 500 miles. It has 11.7:1 compression ratio so it DEFINITELY needs PREMO gas, just an unreal car... I'm in AWE... can't believe it's sitting behind me. You have to damn near LAY DOWN to get in it... ya Gunny... MY BACK... LOL... but once you're in it, it's AWESOME, you just get SUCKED INTO the seat. The car only comes up to my chest, it's LOW, and the windows are pretty narrow. It's like sitting in a race car, and I freakin' LOVE IT! I'm so damn wound up I probably won't sleep tonight...

It's also keyless... you just just have the fob in your pocket and get in it and push a button to start it, push the button to shut it off. You walk away and it locks itself. You walk near it and it unlocks itself. If you happen to leave the fob in the car and walk away, it beeps 3 times real fast at you like... HEY, you forgot your FOB, dumbass... :poke: But hidden in the fob is a key for in case the battery is ever dead you can unlock it, and the key hole is hidden. The little silver button on the outside door handle will manually lock or unlock it too so long as you're standing near it with the fob. The parking brake is just a button. Just all too cool.

Believe it or not, "back in the day," a couple brothers, real brothers, and I raced. We had a 1955 and a 1958 Hobby Stock race cars. We raced at Oregon Capital Super Speedway, and Columbus Speedway. I went to school with the Moore Brothers that owned Columbus speedway... so this ain't my first rodeo with a hot car. I've owned a couple pretty fast hotrods and I've built hotrod engines for cars and bikes. I've ridden Harley Davidsons with so much horse power it would soil most people's pants. Speed and power and I are very well acquainted. But I take your advice as good advice and I appreciate the thought, man... really. I'll be fine, and really, I have no plans to whoop the tar otta that Camaro. I do plan to baby it. Sure I'll get on it, that's what it was made to do, but only occasionally. It's got a good home with me and I'm going to take extremely good care of it. It's going to have a nice life as long as it belongs to me.

I know your intentions are always honorable, brother...

I'm sure here and there I'll have a little fun with it, I mean, it IS a serious hotrod, it was BUILT to GO FAST, and you can feel that when you drive it. It's just BEGGING you to GET ON IT. But one other thing is, I can only imagine what those huge meats on the back cost per tire. I really don't want to roast those off, even though I could.

Not sure I like the factory wheels. If they don't grow on me, I'm going to look at something different.

Holy crapoola, Sassy. My SS was $48,000.

I talked with my salesman yesterday and he said my '17 and the '18's are virtually the same car, and that the SS is a pretty much a ZL1 without the supercharger, they have all the same options. I honestly don't need 650HP. 455 is enough, and it doesn't get that good of mileage as is either, and you have to run premo gas too.

I found that "parent mode" in my menus too.

I'm not warming up to the silver wheels on my black SS Camaro. I'm going to check these guys out and see what their prices are. A brand new OEM wheel from Chevy is $589. There's the same wheel as mine remanufactured black powder coated wheels on ebay for $300, but I'm leery of them. You don't just screw around and throw on some powder coat on a wheel that goes on a super car capable of going 180 miles an hour and call it good. There's a right way and a wrong way to do it. I'd like to think these guys can black powder coat my wheels for like $150 each, that would be cool... looks like they're a great company, and they're near me...

Well, just waiting on my friend to buy my GMC. Should be Wednesday. He's a good guy and likes the RUST FREE vehicles and has been looking for a truck, so instead of flying to Phoenix like he did to buy his van, this one is right here. If so, I have the truck to replace it all picked out. A 2016 Chevy 1500 Z71 Silverado with only 24,000 miles on it. The dealer has it parked in the back holding it for me, and I asked about having matching red stripes painted on the hood to match the Camaro. They'd be brother and sister vehicles... ;)

Well, the saga continues in this thread... latest is the High Country developed transmission problems with only 2,500 miles on it. Was making a loud whining noise like an old Ford power steering pump run low on fluid, and it would surge going up hills, and it lurched forward a few times when I started it, once with a big clunk. So the second time I had it back to the shop to be fixed and had to drive home one of their crappy loaners, I started looking, AGAIN, for another truck. Found a nice new 2019 Silverado LTZ, WHITE. Figured the 2015 2500HD Z71 LTZ, and the 2017 Camaro, and the 2018 High Country were ALL BLACK, maybe a white truck would BREAK THE CURSE. So I called and had a talk with them about the new truck and they tried to give me the, "well you're High Country is the old body style," well SO WHAT, IT'S ONLY 8 MONTHS OLD. Ticked me off, so I said no way in hell to their DEAL and let them stew a bit on losing a sale. They called me back and asked what kind of a deal I was thinking of, AND informed me that they had contacted GM and they were willing to kick in almost $4,000 to help cover any differences because of the trans problems with the other NEW truck. So I pitched them my terms and we went back and forth and finally came to an agreeable deal. But I didn't find out until the last minute that this new truck is RARE, it was special ordered by someone that changed their mind and bought a big 2500HD diesel instead, but this truck has what they call the "Max Trailering Package," which is a larger ring and pinion gear in the rear end, and lower gears, and heavy duty rear springs, a larger radiator, larger alternator, the 15 different views in the center display for trailering and so on. Well, I was quite pleasantly surprised to find all this out. This truck isn't really a 1/2 ton, and not quite a 3/4 ton, it's like a 5/8 ton. It also has the new 10 speed transmission, and I love it. I love everything about this new truck actually, and it drives like a million bucks. It was very close in price to the High Country too, but I actually like it better. They added a whole bunch of new options and cool stuff on the 2019's. I'm very happy. Now I hope I don't have any problems with it. I swear if I do I'll never buy another Chevy truck. I hate Dodge and Ford though too so, I don't know what I'd do. Find an old 1985 Chevy or something.

But, here it is. Has a two tone interior too, which is also hard to find. Super nice truck I think...
