Kam Chancellor steps away from the game after a neck injury.

In my life as a fan I have never seen quite the display of power and athleticism Kam showed. In the modern era No other at his position did what he did. He Caused the NFL to change rules. Kam changed the game.

This - Kam makes Vernon Davis forget who his parents are.

Bye Cam :smoke:

Mike Wagner, Dick Anderson, Jake Scott ... Chancellor was just "another".

Rules were changed for because of Lester Hayes. Not necessarily an admirable thing. He was/is a POS.

Kam was better than those three. Kam changed the game. Kam is the reincarnation of Kenny Easley. But hit harder.

I think you're living with 'golden age' filters.

6'1" 193lbs.

6'3" 235lbs.

Kam would have destroyed him. Kam would destroy him to the point Charlie would implode and turn into a black-hole that consumes not only Charlie but three generations of the men in his family.

Physics, man. Physics. Charlie played in an era with few safety rules. Kam destroyed wills to live in an era where offensive players can be nearly untouchable.

No rules were changed because of Kam Chancellor. At best, his bandwagon, pom-pom boys think he was the greatest thing since sliced cheese.

I don't. And as far as "the Golden Era" goes? These pantywaists nowadays wouldn't make it to halftime with players from the 50s, 60s and 70s. You'd just need a good supply of body bags.

Except rules were changed because of Kam Chancellor. What this discussion shows me is you really are uninterested in facts, stats, presence, affect-on-the-game.

Kam would destroy anyone from the 50s, 60s, or 70s; NO safety or maybe three? had the combination of killer instinct AND speed AND strength.

Instead of just saying "Oh yeah? Well, back when players didn't have rules that limited them in the name of safety, TODAY'S players would have had a harder time (even though they would have hit harder, dirtier, and with more head-hunter mentality than they do now)!" Maybe you look at the strength, speed, endurance, viciousness of what today's players -who are faster, stronger, bigger than those of yore - and what they could do with no holds barred.

Player Comparison: Ronnie Lott
Players like Kam Chancellor don't come around often. The safety is an excellent athlete who can cover bigger receivers and tight ends while also making an impact in the run game. Above all, though, he is an enforcer who keeps opponents from getting anything easy over the middle of the field.
After just watching some of his big hits (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0em8rktZBlE), the intimidation factor alone will force receivers to change their routes. This is something Ronnie Lott did on a regular basis during his playing days (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNabfHVX4Vs) with the San Francisco 49ers.
"You want to put a hitting on them and make sure they remember you," Chancellor said after the Seattle Seahawks' Week 3 win over the 49ers, per John Boyle (https://twitter.com/johnpboyle/status/780206893503434752) of Seahawks.com.
Lott—who admittedly was a more versatile player, spending time at cornerback and both safety positions—stood at 6'0", 203 lbs. during his playing days. Chancellor is 6'3", 232 lbs., which is a whole lot more force to take out receivers and running backs.
The Seahawks safety could also be unleashed without having to worry about those pesky flags for player safety, something that was much less of a concern 30 years ago. According to Pro Football Reference (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/ChanKa99/penalties/), Chancellor has been called for 12 personal foul penalties since 2011, including eight for unnecessary roughness.
Eliminate these calls from the equation and Chancellor would be hurting a whole lot of opposing players.
Jerry Rice didn't have to worry about Lott because he was on the same team, but he would be in trouble if he played the Seahawks.
Allowing more physicality in the secondary would make Seattle's already elite defense one of the best ever, and Chancellor would be right there leading the way.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2665017-nfl-then-and-now-how-todays-superstars-would-have-fared-across-eras#slide3Wrong. I looked it up.

Chancellor would be broken on the sidelines before halftime, first game of the season. The NFL had rules back then. They didn't control the game like they do now. They allowed the players to play. Now, every time some pansy gets his eyelash bent it's a foul. That may be football to YOU, but it's ruined the game to me.

And yeah, I DO like football players that can play football. When they start doing it again, be sure and let me know.

Different sport, but how about rule changes caused by Wilt Chamberlain?

1. The widened the 3-second lanea because Wilt was have too easy a time scoring.
2. The created the Offensive Goaltending rule because Wilt was tipping in too many missed shots.
3. They created a rule that foul shots had to be taken from behind the foul line, because Wilt was practicing taking a running start from mid court, leaping from behind the foul line, and then taking a kind of finger-roll shot.

Do they keep records of "Most Rules Changes Caused"?

Ah yes the Seattle fanboys. I know them well.

Every player on their team is the greatest in history at their position, from Russell Wilson to lynch to chancellor to Richard Sherman, butler was holding in the end zone before picking off Wilson, and Pete Carroll is the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Different sport ... NASCAR ... Dale Earnhart' s death. Safety rules changed after he died. HANS device mandatory.

Also, NASCAR Championship rules changed because Johnson won too many on points and didn't have to win/place/show in last race to still win championship. Now, a driver can potentially win championship while only winning one race during season, or none at all (just collect points for being in top ten each week) and being ahead of the other three contenders in the last race. Makes for better racing but seems unfair. It's more like a tournament now.

I could say more but don't want to derail football feud.
