CORPORATE SUICIDE WATCH, NIKE EDITION

Nike has chosen the star of its 30th anniversary #JustDoIt advertising campaign: Colin Kaepernick. At first glance, it seems weird for an athletic shoe company to select as its corporate icon someone who is no longer an athlete, and was never a star. At second glance, it gets weirder:

Sure just ignore my thread I aready started on the topic everyone.

Anyway Pete, companies make mistakes all the time. That's been proven over and over again.

Nike just underestimated how many of their own customers Colin pissed off with his own antics.

Nike stock has fallen 3% today and there is zero chance that Nike thought "well our stock will fall 3% but that's ok"

Please provide this number of customers Nike pissed off. You know, Nike is a global brand. It does not worry about losing a few thousand customers. 3% one day swing is not a blip in the time frame Nike execs are calculating for. Quit your snowflake rage.

Time for a Gunny's Buy American consumer report :)

Nike is a corporation based in Oregon; hence, the claim it is an "American" product.

Beneath the surface, Nike has moved a lot of its operations overseas. It has been under the scrutiny of various watchdog groups for selling sweat shop products made in Indonesia, Vietnam and/or the Philippines. The haze surrounding its overseas operation is as thick as it gets with Nike providing no REAL answers other than at one point they had to settle with one fo the countries by bringing their pay up to minimum wage.

I know for a fact they quit making some of their running shoes in the US back in the 90s because I always wore Mike Air Max. When they moved the operation to SE Asia, they changed the last of the shoe (the form for the sole) making it slimmer and rendering Nike running shoes useless to me.

I will do not and will not use Nike products nor wear any of its propaganda. If I did, I'd throw it all away for this crap with Kaepernick. He's a POS. So's Nike as far as I'm concerned.

So... Nike stock continues to fall, and they've lost $4.2 BILLION so far.

I hope it's worth it, because this is only the beginning.

I'm actually glad these idiot SJW leftists identify themselves, so I can avoid their products.

Does the NFL itself have an associated/official sports brand?

I'm not worried about it in the least, was just teasing . I just thought this was an interesting topic. One has to wonder why these companies keep making these moves that almost always end up with them losing market share. It's as if they don't care that they are irking a large base of potential and or actual customers.

I’d say the explanation is they are true believers, and therefore their leftist ideology “trumps” common sense, business acumen, and decency.

Regarding Nike stock value -

True it has fallen a bit in the last few days, but it’s only fallen to where it’s stock was a month ago - compared to the start of this year, or this time last year, its stock is way up.

Time will tell if this is the start of some big drop in its stock value, but it’s a little premature to consider this much of anything at all.

I never liked Nike running shoes, football shoes, or cross trainers to begin with. I started wearing
New Balance in the early 80's and never looked back.

In fact, after some careful testing and evaluation by Physical Therapists and Athletic Orthopedic Doctors,
The Coast Guard started issuing New Balance Cross-trainers to initial entry members - recruits cadets,
and officer candidates.

With this Kaepernick deal, I will never buy shirts, sweats or shorts made by Nike. (I do not have any
to begin with. This just seals that for me.)

The New Balance running shoes last, are Made in the US, and Most importantly, I can walk in them. It was touch and go on that score when I first got out of the hospital. I do not like NB cross trainers. At all. Not in any guise over the years. They're like an after thought to a company that makes its money on other styles.

Flash in the pan purchases based on emotional, knee jerk reactions won't cover the loss of long-term, brand-loyal customers. Your foaming at the mouth $200 one-time purchase now won't cover losing 2 new pair of sneaks, minimum, twice a year for YEARS.

Two, I doubt Nike will tank. I doubt the NFL will tank. Both are irrelevant to MY right to refuse to do business with whoever I deem unworthy of such. You're all about that unamerican POS, Colin Cancer, but no one else's Right to same exact freedom you wish to bestow upon him above all others. I don't support unamerican, unpatriotic people nor their organizations with as much as one thin dime. That of course is MY personal choice and Right, so ...

I don't have any "issue" combat boots. I have a pair of Red Wing 8" boots that are the equivalent. Those "issue" boots went a long way in destroying my ankles. I HATED those left over, Vietnam-issue boots with a passion.

Those look like Corcorans. We weren't allowed to wear those. Until the mid-90s in the Marines, you could wear ONLY Marine Corps issue boots. Soon as they changed THAT dumbass rule I was sporting a pair of Danners :).

Yeah they're not issue, although I liked those too. I don't know if what we were issued in 1979 were Vietnam era or not. The new khaki colored boots look nice too. Would like to find a good pair of those.

I got these at a big shoe store here in Wisconsin. They have zippers on the side. They sure are comfy though.

Disaster.Did anyone state Nike would go out of business? You're a little -- no, a LOT -- early to be predicting long-term effect. You know what people like you accomplish who have a voice but are too afraid to use it ? Nothing.

You know what people who have a voice and an impact accomplish? Revolutions. That's why YOU still belong to the UK -- well except the part they let claim "independence" so they didn't have to support them anymore -- and the US is a sovereign nation. We BOTH came from the same damned place. Some people got a pair. Then there are the marshmallows that don't.

No, but there were several posts here about the drop in Nike stock, so just following that up with the fact that the stock is now back up to exactly the same place it was before.I didn't. I stated I will not buy nor wear nor otherwise endorse Nike products among others. But I was ahead of the game anyway. I quit when I read up on their sweatshop labor when they moved to SE Asia. That as in the 90s. As previously stated. They didn't go out of business then so I wasn't figuring they would now.

The fact remains, Kaepernick is wrong and fraud among other things, and so is Nike. Both present themselves as something they are not -- American.

To point out another tidbit I saw recently, Kaepernick is REALLY trying to pull a fast one ... John Elway/The Denver Broncos offered Kaepernick a restructured contract in 2016 and he refused it. So any accusation that the NFL team owners colluded in keep him unemployed gets shot down right there by John Elway. That is according to John Elway.

Kaepernick is making a fortune off of fools who support his bullshit.

I couldn't care less about their stocks or sales.

I have a pair of Air Jordan's, but rarely wear them anyway. And I already paid, so it would be dumb to throw them away or burn them. I would give them away or to a homeless person, but I'm keeping them.

What I will say, when I'm due for new sneaks, they won't be on my list. Too overpriced for their regular sneaks anyway. I can get a pair of decent under armour or even skechers for much much less. And for your general high tops or running sneaks, they're all the same at my age. But I'm not part of their age group of expected purchasers that they care much about anyway.

Funny seeing liberals all of a sudden SO interested in sales or stock. And why is that? Solely because conservatives got upset. Liberals aren't much for debates and discussion, but are ALL OVER things if they think their comments will upset or piss off conservatives. And likely, 99% of them couldn't truly care less about Nike as much as I do.

I see on the NFL field, many a players wearing Nike, and many wearing other leading cleats from major companies. They all look cool, IMO, and all wear and handle similarly.

At the end of the day, all that matters is the decision/commercial or their words about "sacrifice". And the liberals TRULY think what he did was a sacrifice, even though he keeps reeling in millions. AND that he had the ability to be on a few times since his dismissal. Sacrifice my ass. And when dealing with what everyone already knows is the flag and the anthem, and then on top of that on the same subject, to talk about massive sacrifice. What in the world DO they think that the military, veterans, folks who lost loved ones - are going to think? Poor decision and outright false anyway. So whether they profit or not from it means jack shit to me.

And the liberals smiling about it and that think he did make a sacrifice, and will kneel in the honor of the endless thousands who have died that we honor with the flag/anthem - can all just kindly go fuck themselves. :)
