The thing is basically a tank that floats.

Powered by twin 6V53 detroit diesel engines. The propellers are protected by the hull, to help prevent them being damaged if the boat runs aground. The boats have 9 air-tight compartments forward and aft of the steering station. The aft compartment is designed to hold litters to strap in injured people, while the forward compartment crew compartment is designed for uninjured personnel.

Her hull is 3/8 corten steel, she can break ice AND she is designed to automatically right herself if overturned.

Sure, she's a wallowing beast and at best does 14 knots, but if you want a boat you can trust to bring you home look no further!

Holy Shit! I loved the 44'....
Slow but strong. The only boat that out did that is the 52' MLB of
which 4 are still active all these years! All of them are in Oregon or Washington.

The original engines on the 44 were air start cummins. Had to get there first on the SAR alarm so as to start the main with the compressor (lol)

Be a sweet little Bass boat for me to head out on if I should ever visit my Dad in Florida! I would imagine it might be a little costly to gas 'er up though!

A guy I worked with in the Cape May NJ gym was the first one on the East Coast to
have a 44 roll over. That was in the Atlantic City Inlet.

He said they were taught that the boat would re-right itself in 30 seconds. They were
strapped in when a huge wave hit them broadside. Glenn said he was counting up -
'one thousand 58...one thousand 59' when it finally righted itself. They found that the
mast had got stuck in the seafloor of the inlet.

The CG changed the mast construction after that to make it able to break off, and re-right
correctly!
