Donald Trump to Mexico: Migrants ‘Are Not Coming into the U.S.A’

President Donald Trump urged Mexico on Monday to send the growing flow of migrants from South America back to their countries of origin.
“Mexico should move the flag-waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it any way you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A.”

More than a hundred migrants who tried to rush through the border were turned back as American agents fired tear gas at the approaching crowds.

Currently, 5,000 migrants are in a camp in Tijuana while the Trump administration is urging the Mexican government to keep them from the border. Thousands of additional migrants are also expected to arrive in Tijuana.

“Would be very SMART if Mexico would stop the Caravans long before they get to our Southern Border,” Trump wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

Trump is reportedly working on a deal with the Mexican government to keep migrants in Mexico while they await asylum claims, instead of allowing into the United States. The incoming Mexican administration, however, denied that they are putting that kind of policy in place.

The president is putting more pressure on Mexico, warning that he might close the southern border “permanently” if necessary.

Mexico Promises to Deport 500 Caravan Migrants Who Rushed the U.S. Border

The Mexican government will deport up to 500 caravan migrants back to Central America after they tried to cross the U.S. border on Sunday, according to Reuters news service.

The news service reported the government’s response to the rush by caravan migrants for the fence at the San Ysidro port of entry:

MEXICO CITY, Nov 25 (Reuters) – Mexico will deport about 500 migrants who on Sunday tried to “violently” and “illegally” cross the U.S. border, according to the Mexican Interior Ministry in a statement.

The ministry’s website also said it “will reinforce the border points where people broke into their attempt to illegally enter the United States.”

The two statements suggest the Mexican government is trying to keep the Central American caravan migrants from rushing over the border to claim asylum offered by a U.S. judge in San Francisco. The judge agreed with an ACLU request to block deportations of migrants who step across the U.S. border — even before reaching the border fence — and then claim asylum.

President Trump threatened to permanently close the U.S. border with Mexico on Monday, saying he'll take the drastic action if members of a swelling migrant caravan are not deported back to their Central American homelands.

U.S. Border Patrol fired tear gas canisters and rubber bullets at a group of migrants on Sunday, including families with young children, as hundreds tried to storm the border.

San Diego Sector Border Control chief patrol agent Rodney Scott said Monday morning on CNN that when the migrants approached border fences, they 'immediately started throwing rocks and debris at our agents, taunting our agents.'

'And once our agents were assaulted and the numbers started growing – you know we had two or three agents at a time facing hundreds of people at a time – they deployed tear gas to protect themselves and protect the border.'

Carla Provost, the chief of U.S. Border Patrol, told the Fox news Channel that 'our agents were being assaulted. A large group approached the area and they were throwing rocks and bottles at my men and women, putting them in harm's way as well as other members of the caravan.'

The confrontation produced chaos and new dangers that prompted U.S. officials to close the crossing between Tijuana and San Diego, stopping everyone in their tracks – including thousands travelling legally between the U.S. and Mexico.
