...Thanks the people of Brookings-Harbor and Curry County for helping their crew
during the shutdown.
A retired Marine Vet sent the duty crew at the Station pizza one afternoon.
Local citizens sent the Station personnel $100 prepaid gift cards.
Others contributed other essentials as well.
The Search and Rescue crews are considered essential and would
not have been told to go home and wait it out. Many of them are junior enlisteds
who are likely still getting on their feet to make ends meet.
When I was a GS-11 Command Center Specialist, we had a couple of shut downs,
but I and the other GS-11 were considered essential and not subject to furlough as
many other civilians had to face.
