This has been stuck in my head for about a week now! Couldn't find a better song though, as normally when that happens it drives me insane to get rid of the song! But I've always been a 'ballad' kind of guy, and songs that have 'meaning' and a story to them. Sounds like this writer in the band was in a bad place when writing this, a sad place, and expressed what I have often thought - that NO ONE knows what is on your mind, whether you feel happy inside or sad. Content with life or not. And being a very shy person and an introvert, I can really get into this song.

And yeah, so WHAT IF people could know whats inside you, on your mind, in your heart - would it make a difference? Would people look at you or treat you differently? Would there be more caring from others? Or would it still be a world of dog eat dog, and most others simply don't give a crap!

---

Nobody knows when there's clouds in the skies
When there are tears in your eyes
Nobody knows when you're hurting so bad
So what if they had?

Far away where the hills turn to plains
I sit and I wonder where you are
I dream at night of the memories that we share
I feel your touch I see your stare

Nobody knows when you're down and out
Nobody cares what it's all about

It depends, I think !

If that were true of everybody, then there'd be a greater human identification between people. A 'dog eat dog' world would be nearly impossible, unless of course, a predatory character suffered from mental illness making empathy literally an impossibility.

If that was limited to just a few people, then the less scrupulous among us would see a great opportunity for exploitation. Such exploited people would know much pain in life, at the hands of the more predatory types around.

From that, could come great political exploitation, too. Socialism is all about social control, achieved through dictating how people should think. Have people in this world who were as 'readable' as you describe, would mean that they could be completely understood ... therefore, particularly ripe for manipulation.

Information is power. Fully understand a person, and that person can be controlled.

So, no, we're all much better off exactly as we are !

Nobody cares what it's all aboutDog eat dog. Your weaknesses will be exploited/used against you as a weapon. The right/left are perfect examples. The right tries to be conservative, polite, caring, honest etc. The left has exploited it to the point that the right is afraid to even offer opinions for fear of offending something or someone. The left knows this and accuses the right of any and everything it has declared bad because they fear no reprisal.

I am usually diplomatic with strangers. Friends that know me have no worries - we can be honest.

But a stranger trying back me into a corner verbally or physically will get a response they will never forget.

As an empath, I usually do know what's inside a person. I can walk past people and I'll get an "impression" of them. Most people are fine, but I can walk past other people, very few, but the red flags go up. Instantly I'm on alert. Ever hear that expression, "there's just something about him/her I don't like?" It's exactly like that, but I don't even have to meet or talk to this person, just be near them.

So, for the most part, I think most people are rather good inside, most in their own oblivious way because they're locked into their own little bubble, their world, but there's some that are real bad apples, and some of them hide it very well.
