Apparently these 50 people were offered various plea bargains. For example, Felicity Huffman has already signed on the dotted line and has pleaded guilty for giving $15,000 in bribe money to help get her kiddo into school, by having the proctor help cheat for her when the test was completed. She may get no prison time, and up to as little as 4 months behind the shiny bars.

Lori Loughlin went into court like a movie star of course, signing autographs & smiling and blah blah blah. She pleaded not guilty and turned down any plea deals offered in her direction, I guess not taking things fully seriously. Apparently even telling friends that jail won't be on the table.

So, 2 days ago, prosecutors said "Ok, don't wanna play ball, now we add more appropriate charges - so charges of conspiring to commit fraud and money laundering were added.

And she and hubby bribed using $500,000!! The first set of charges apparently would bring anywhere from 18-24 months behind bars. And now the new charge adds in potentially another 20 years behind the metal doors!

Bad enough you broke the law, thinking you're above it - but still continuing to think like that after being busted. These prosecutors mean business and apparently want to send out a message.

Lori Loughlin Now 'Freaking Out' About Jail Time, 'Thought The DA Was Bluffing,' Source Says

"Full House" actress Lori Loughlin turned down a plea deal because she believed that the district attorney was only "bluffing" when he threatened to throw the book at her over the college admissions bribery scandal, but now she's "freaking out" over the prospect of prison time, E! News reports.

Unlike "Desperate Housewives" actress Felicity Huffman, who was also caught up in the bribery scandal, Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli (founder of Mossimo clothing company) refused to take a plea deal over mail fraud charges connected to the bribery scheme. On Monday, Huffman pleaded guilty and issued a lengthy apology. Over a dozen other defendants ensnared in "Operation Varsity Blues" have likewise pleaded guilty, but Loughlin and Giannulli turned down the offer. Now, according to E! News' sources, Loughlin is in "anguish," realizing that she had failed to fully accept the seriousness of the situation.

On Tuesday, Loughlin and Giannulli learned that along with charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, they were also being charged with conspiring to commit fraud and money laundering. Altogether, the couple now faces up to 40 years in prison, E! notes.

"For awhile, as she rattled around the 12,000-square-foot spread they first snapped up for nearly $14 million in 2015, Lori was able to keep the worst of the 'what ifs' at bay," the outlet reports. "Firm in her beliefs that surely she wouldn't see the inside of a prison cell, a source tells E! News, she neglected to join the 13 parents (including fellow actress Felicity Huffman) and one university athletic coach who agreed to plead guilty to the charges of mail fraud and honest services mail fraud."

"She has been in complete denial and thought maybe she could skate by," the source told the outlet. "She refused to accept any jail time and thought the DA was bluffing. She was adamant she wouldn't do any jail time."

I'm undecided on this to be honest. On the one hand, yes they broke the aw. On the other, rich people have been paying to get their unexceptional children into elite schools forever. Perhaps this is a case where we just have too many laws, I'm not sure.....

Frankly, I don’t see much difference between this and affirmative action. Both unfairly take the seats of the most deserving kids.
