I think 99% of posters here would love this series of books, and in them the very conservative protagonist creates a socialist country .

The rules are simple, Every able bodies person works, every able bodied person is provided for, it's hard but not impossible, to get rich, the borders are completely closed and undesirables are ahem "encouraged" to leave.

Absolutely no one is forced to stay..

Now for the real issue

THIS IS FUCKING FICTION, IN REAL LIFE SOCIALISM WILL NEVER WORK

Gunny, you ESPECIALLY would connect with this book series. The main character is a crusty old Marine who hates liberals LOL

Nope, nope and nope...

I don't care how you paint that fantasy.... just no. Besides, we are talking about people. Never underestimate mankind's ability to screw things up. We humans can destroy a steel ball with a rubber mallet!

Requirement to have before you can even enlist, regardless of service.

Sounds like a retelling of John Smith and the pilgrims.

Load of rubbish .. it's that simple.

We've tried hardline Socialist Governments over here. What we got, was ...

A lot of able bodied people just sponge off of benefit payments, rather than work
Most ARE provided for, yes (riding off the backs of taxpayers) .. though, we still have the homeless & disadvantaged ..
Yes, you can get rich, but, Socialism disapproves if you do ! Universal, featureless misery from relative impoverishment is the normal result
The borders are FAR from closed ! We once had a climate which said that to have less than porous borders was evidence of racial discrimination.

Trade Unionism. Deeply rooted in Socialism ... there to fight, in the main, for better wages for 'the workers'. Actual result ... inbuilt into that effort is a never-spoken admittance that they dare not, ever, be TOO successful; for if they were, why have Unions in future ?

Unions' weapon is, chiefly, the strike weapon. Do that too much, and you kill the goose laying the golden eggs .. no business can take too much of strike action without killing jobs and dissolving into a state of terminal non-viability.

Socialism destroys. Its manifestation in the real world cannot be tolerated beyond a certain point. It is a cancer.

A world without Socialism will know a new and lasting Golden Age.
