@ Wiccan. Yo! Good to see you!

@revelarts. I'm not sure but I think it is Kingpin from Marvel Comics, and the avatar of a scrawny, nerdy, self-important, pimply-faced, living in his mom's basement, working part-time with a leaf-blower moderator from Brand X apparently viewed himself. :laugh2:

@TZS, brother, he's poring through them right now, as we speak. If not, Votes-4-RINOs is probably alerting at this very moment.

Hey Taft, familiar folks are fine but maybe you need to tone down animosity that was part of that Brand X way of thinking. Seems we avoid that kind of nonsense here. We'd like it if the new place didn't start feeling like the old place.

Brand X steals your voice, and trashes you when in ways they wouldn't dare when you had a voice.

I'm chilling down now, looking around DP a bit, and liking *VERY* much what I see here. :salute:

Considering a very ugly and unnecessary PM I received from a new member and "refugee" from wherever you folks fled from, I'd say that's good advise.

Chill folks, you're not "there" anymore. Leave your past dysfunctional MOs behind you...Just sayin, for what it's worth.

Good post on Mr. P's part....we're here and need to get accustomed to our new surroundings, make new friends, hope for old friends to follow our lead and say to hell with the tyrants and lemmings of "that other place".

Hi folks. I registered here yesterday .. making myself known to you all.

Tyr met me recently on another forum (another Conservative one, where I've been debating for years), and so I've become aware of this one, courtesy of Tyr, so have joined up. Greetings, Tyr, if you're reading this !

Brief introduction, then. I'm British. I'm posting these days from south Wales, where I live, though I'm English, not Welsh .. a former Londoner, born and bred there.

As to what I'm all about - well, I regard myself as a staunch Conservative. I'm 'proudly Thatcherite', which I believe makes me essentially a Reaganite in American terms. In a nutshell ... I'm very strongly anti-Socialist in my beliefs. I loathe Trade Unions. I regard Socialism as a blight on humanity, and if I could make it happen, I'd consign Socialism the world over to the status that Hitler's variant, 'National Socialism', has today .. in other words, hated and reviled the world over. Something to be consigned to oblivion.

I'm strongly pro-the War on Terror, and if anything I'd prefer it to be ratcheted UP rather than down. Terrorism isn't to be parleyed with under any circumstances .. rather, all it deserves is its extermination.

I'm too new here to have yet seen whether you have your contingent of Liberal posters here, though I expect there are at least a few. If so, you are pretty much guaranteed some lively debates with me. It should be fun !

Bring it on ....

Just wanted to add, for the hell of it, that my wife LOVES Ronald Reagan. Books, pictures, plaques, has all that crap. She probably knows his history better than his family does. Shit, I think she'd divorce me and marry him if not for the obvious reasons. She also loves Jon Bon Jovi and Denzel Washington. I don't like her either. My new crushes are Bar Refaeli and Lacey Chabert. But that's bound to change within the next few hours.

H'm. Well, Jim, I'm not a youngster (I'm in my Fifties). Still, I'd go for women such as Kate Winslet, or Jordan (aka Katie Price).

Politically, but of course, nobody can hold a candle to Margaret Thatcher .. she faced down our Union militancy, showed her unbending patriotism over the Falklands (it would've been an easy option to resettle the population, but of course, that was unthinkable to her, as well it should have been !!) ... and her transatlantic political partnership with Ronald Reagan was a brilliant one to behold.

Most of her reforms remain in place to this day. Even the Socialists who followed her (Blair, Gordon Brown) didn't find the nerve to reverse them.

Such is Conservative greatness, folks.

First welcome and thanks for taking me up on my offer. Great people here, well most are splendidly so and I will not name names on the few that are greatly lacking. I'll leave that judgement rightly up to you my friend.
Look forward to our discussions and I intend to post a Churchill thread later so we can discuss his greatness and I know that you will counter with Thatcher's being a bit greater. For you did not yield that point on the other site. By the way I logged in there and posted a few shots this morning on some other threads..
Take my word you will find some friends here rather quickly as we have some very strong conservatives here that rightly view PC crap and the wish to always appease to both be rather silly liberal standards.
Be advised (a shocker) that being a friend with me here quite likely has a few drawbacks here but I'll pm you about that later!
Im well pleased that you have brilliantly made the choice to join and participate- ....Tyr

Many thanks, Tyr. I'm certainly looking forward to your 'Churchill v Thatcher' future thread.

I'll probably check out the other forum tomorrow to see what's there ... partly because, today, I'm spending most of my time here, but principally because of the time difference. Depending on where any one American contributor is based, I'll be a minimum of 5 hours ahead of your timezone (just after 10PM here as I type, for example, and I'll leave soon for the night) ...

Welcome Drummond,

I believe you will much prefer the liberty of this site as opposed to the other site that was ran by lil' libbie losers and infested with lemmings. On a cautionary note, this site does have its population of so-called-conservatives. Still, I have not found quite as many loons here (but I'm new here as well so we shall see). I am with you regarding Thatcher...she was quite a lady. I just turned 44 so I've never had the pleasure of voting for a REAL conservative to the White House...all pretenders thus far and it appears that I'll have to vote for another pretender this coming Nov].

Again, welcome, Welcome, WELCOME!!!

Yeah, but we ALL know what credibility THAT person has, Revelart. HA!!! THOSE kind of folks still think that their "free" healtcare is FREE! What lemmings!!!!! I have clients and friends in the Late Great Land Down Under and they absolutely hate the banning of guns and other anti-free regulations/legislation. I also have clients in the UK but they are very liberal minded, have nothing to do with God and feel that the gov. should "stick it" to the rich. They are usually the ones who are easily converted to isSLUM. Of course, I'm now greatly off topic and for that I apologize but the post by Revelarts really got me going and it was good information pertaining to who we have on this site. Every site is gonna have their egg heads and I'm so thrilled to have someone with actual intelligence, common sense and RIGHT mindedness.

In the first post I ever made on a forum, years ago I asked jokingly and rhetorically how long it would take me to get kicked off the forum. Well as it turns out, the answer to that question was (two days)

I promise to try and do better here. No really.... I will.

That's way faster than me ...

A couple of years ago, I joined a Left-wing forum run from my homeland. I got involved in some, shall we say, 'energetic' debates (particularly so with a resident Leftie who was rabidly anti-Israeli). Anyway, I lasted there approximately six weeks before being kicked off.

But that wasn't the end of the story.

One of the site's Mods followed me across to an American Conservative site (not dissimilar to this one) where I'd been already posting for some months. His monicker was 'Marxist Nutter' ... which really says it all, doesn't it ?? So, he tried his luck there, and sure enough, got rather more opposition from its regulars than he'd bargained for.

He gave up bothering with that forum after a few weeks, and ran off home to his 'native environment'. He was never booted off of that forum. But he knew he wasn't faring too well there. So, he remains a member of it ... but he hasn't posted there in a very considerable time ...

Hell, I dealt with over a dozen of those type asshats for over five solid years! Didnt I my friend? Gave 'em hell too and never backed down. Can still go there and post should I choose to and give'em hell again. Never faced any less than half a dozen at a time there. You know that well. The most arrogant poster here could still take lessons from those guys on being arrogant. Howdy,

I met Gadget and Mr. P on Nonviolence.org almost four years ago. It was my first real online bulletin board experience. I've been on plenty of others since then... :lmao: some mostly righty like this one, some mostly lefty, quite a few combos, been a moderator on more than one, been banned from some too... all in a day's work... :blues:

I AM TheStripey1, peace tiger... now a peace tiger differs from a peace dove in that I will not hesitate to rip you a new one should I feel you deserve it... as a veteran that volunteered to serve in the war of my youth, I despise chickenhawks, but I love debating with hawks, as some of you have already found out...

As my avatar sez... I'm a recovering republican... whereas I may have voted for a democrat or two in the recent past, I AM NOT a democrat... and although I may lean left of y'all on most issues, I am NOT a liberal... I call my position... centrist...

Like most people alive today, I am a complex individual and I look forward to mixing it up with all of you...

obtw... who are the mods here?

Your tag line is funny.

This tag line.

Lost your job? Thank the republicans!
Lost your house? Thank the republicans!
Lost your life savings? Thank the republicans!
Lost your health care? Thank the republicans!
Lost all Hope? Thank the republicans!
I know, this is for introductions, so introduce me to the thread where I can comment about your tag line. I am still laughing hard over those claims.

I hope you CC me with your explanation.

As to me, if being in the military is important, I served 2 years in the Army and over half that time in Germany in 3rd Div. I have had 3 kind of major careers and what seems like a dozen short term jobs.

Working in construction pays well, but I felt I had to fill in my laid off time trying jobs I did not care for but wanted a paycheck.

Looking for stability of work, plus trying to put an end to the grind of some long distance traveling plus the job was dangerous, I opened a machine shop.

I built the company up until my crew was 4-5 as a rule. I sold out by 1971 and have been in Real Estate since. Real estate as in being the broker owner of a real estate company, was also a long time appraiser who stopped that in 1997 and also operated some offices doing real estate loans.

Feel free to ask questions on any of those areas.

In construction I mostly drove piling to support concrete foundations for very large structures of many types. Bridges, huge buildings and lots of overpasses are under my belt.

My machine shop had a lot of experience with packaging machines as well as parts for oil pumps and also aerospace parts and even parts for an old style steel mill. But that is not all we did. We made radar wave guides and worked with a lot of stainless steels, some armor plate steels, built a conveyor system for a roof tile company and on and on. That ended about the time that CNC machines were just being on the market.

So far, it seems to me that this forum has potential and i am pleased thus far.

I hope to add to this forum rather than subtract.

Welcome, Jackson. I enjoy roadtripping your great nation, each of the 10 provinces and the (3 ?) territories have something to offer. Nunavut is the only one I have not been to. Which province (or territory) are you in?

Again, welcome! :salute:

On one of the AOL boards, there was this college teacher named James. James was naturally a hard core left winger but was always very polite.

I rather enjoy that sort of polite left winger.

This new James does not seem to me to be the same guy.

Anyway, hello James and I believe that this forum managed by Jimnyc is the premium site going.

I have to give Jimnyc a huge shout out and vote of thanks for how he manages the forum.

My name's Wake, and I've come from debatepolitics.com. I'm travelling quite a few debate sites for understanding, before I return to DP.

When it comes to political debate forums I'm no spring chicken. I understand how they work, and know a few tricks that staff can use to increase activity. I'm no expert: just learning. I want to understand more what this forum is like and its differences between DP. Tbh, I'm excited with this exploration, and can't wait for the endgame.

Oh, and props to the admin who helped my account get registered!

Yeah, that terrible person offering up some good-hearted advice. Abortion and Gun Control are such divided issues that creating a forum for each will indeed draw more members to those topics. There's no question this forum has a lot of strengths. Doesn't mean suggestions shouldn't be made.

Wake. Look at it this way. Pretend someone...a stranger, comes to your front door. Barges in, and instantly starts telling you how you should change the carpeting, paint, woodwork, food, clothing, and your deodorant.

Like you, coming here. Telling jimnyc, and everyone else HOW YOU think this forum should be...to suit you. It's pretty obvious. You are NOBODY important, or in any position to tell jimnyc, or anyone else to CHANGE...merely because YOU SAID SO.

How would you handle that stranger who barged into your home, and demanded all of those changes?

That is how I, and possibly many others see, and define your Coming here.
You should remember. Children are to be seen, and not heard...until spoken to, or asked to contribute.

We all need to be a tad open to newcomers and their ways too, or the place won't grow. Maybe Wake is just suggesting some things from boards he has been to before. It can't hurt to toss ideas out there, so long as they aren't demands, and expectations aren't too high. I'm open to suggestions.

But I do think we have tried MORE forums, and more specific forums as he has suggested, and it didn't make a difference. If it's abortion or gun related, and politically related, it can go in the political section. If just general talk, the current events qualifies. But we simply aren't a big enough place to need such separation at this time.

I agree. Too many separate forums makes the board cluttered. As for traffic, I recall we used to have a section at the bottom that showed key words that were currently used in posts. I had assumed they were there as an aid in searching; to bring traffic here. Whatever happened to that feature? Did it actually help lead people here, or was it just something for us to look at?

Welcome, Wake

Welcome, Wake

That was a "Cloud" which is helpful in showing what keywords and such are searched for the most here. Some cloud scripts will show the keywords that were used at search engines to find the place. I don't think they have any advantage in bringing traffic, and I think it looks awful wherever it's placed!

With all due respect, if you want to discuss something you should work with what was actually said.

No one "barged in," as you'd make it seem, or told anyone to change a lot of things. Who demanded anything? Your last comment harms your credibility more than anything else I'm afraid.

Does this forum have a lot of strengths and unique forums? You bet. In no way does that mean a straightforward suggestion meant to help shouldn't ever be made. Perhaps you shouldn't be so judgmental and belligerent, and consider if the suggestion itself has merit.

We just use this thread, hence it being 80 pages long now. Some like to go to the "Lounge" and also create their own thread.

What do the rest think, should we have a separate section for new members to introduce themselves? Works for me either way, I can let the community decide on this one.

All forums that i have ever been on had an introduction section. i see it was a nice way to meet and greet new people as an individual. The way its not everyone is in a mass group thread as you have it her.

really really? I was joking about the black pudding! What is a full English breakfast without the black pudding?

I prefer vegemite to marmite though.....

With the Vegemite, I'd agree. Otherwise, very tasty !!! ;)

Maybe with a dollop of tomato sauce. Or, maybe with garlic added. These are much better additions. And with chips .. of course ...

Actually, the last time I tucked into some black pudding was around a week ago. Bought some from my local Tesco supermarket, and finished a whole packet of 8 slices in one go.

Black pudding can be part of a breakfast dish, though it's more commonly eaten at other times of the day (chiefly so). A 'full English' breakfast .. varies a bit, but is basically a 'fry-up' of bacon, eggs, sausages, baked beans, accompanying bread slices ... though that's a traditional dish. More modern times have seen us downing bowls of muesli with milk, or with pouring yoghurt (or soya milk, or, recently, almond milk).

[By the way, you've not lived until you've tasted Tesco Own Brand Almond-flavoured cola ..]

Talking of yoghurts ... you Americans produce superior versions of yoghurts. Syrenn, I've visited New York several times, so I've repeatedly sampled the American versions. Typically, the pots are a lot larger, and you specialise in layered versions ... fruit or jam at the bottom, yoghurt at the top ? Our versions have begun to mimic that, but mainly they're flavoured yoghurts (or with fruit mixed in) but in pots about 30 percent smaller. Bigger pots started appearing a couple of years ago, but we don't think of them as single servings.

This is probably because we've already stuffed ourselves full with black pudding .....

Well, maybe, if you see it that way. But don't you think that the tomato sauce added to, say, a boiled egg, adds to the flavour ?

I too don't know her profession since she has not said.

Jim, back on the AOL forum, a prostitute, a call girl started posting. She spent time defending her job. Said she did a lot of traveling and made huge sums of money.

She was fun to talk too.
