His identity has been an open secret for nearly a month.

The most important thing in the latest news is his connection with Alexandra Chalupa, the "DNC operative" who was central in Ukraine's interference in the 2016 election. Her activity, and Ukraine's attempt to make amends to Trump was reported in a January 11, 2017 politico article:

This means that the "whistleblower" was not so much motivated by his concern about our President's actions and the implication for US interests, but really he was crapping bricks because he learned Trump was asking for an investigation into something he the "whistleblower" was neck deep in . . . Which was his sedition, his actions sabotaging the sitting President while he was working in the White House which would all be exposed with an investigation.

The "whistleblower's" motivation was entirely one of selfish self-protection, and the Dems have been holding him up as a patriot!
