This was already a rebuild. The original was mostly destroyed during WWII. Nevertheless, its always a shame to see historical religious sights destroyed.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-50244169I've been there. Back in 83. It was pretty cool. I guess. It beat the old Cretian fortresses/cities which basically amounts to the outlines of them on the ground.

Rebuild or not, it's too bad. I liked Okinawa and the Okinawans. Who, btw, are insulted if you call them Japanese and vice-versa. Okinawans are a cross of Chinese, Islanders and Japanese. In Japanese society they are a lower class of people and resent the Hell out of it. Japanese karate is actually a direct rip-off of Okinawan te, which is more Chinese than Japanese.
