And there is a second article I'm attaching, even though it's older. It's mentioned in the first, and it's just as sickening if not more.

How in the world do you lie to loved ones / family and tell them you are potentially dying? Going to lengths to give such appearances. Allowing for donations and such. I love when these frauds get what they have coming to them. I find it absolutely appalling and disgusting that someone would use such diseases as excuses to get attention or to make money from it.

There is also a site - gofraudme.com that is dedicated to all of the folks busted on gofundme with various scams. I sat and read that site one day. Sure are a lot of people in this world that shouldn't be breathing the same air as us.

Pennsylvania woman facing felony charges for allegedly faking cancer and racking up $10,000 in donations

A Pennsylvania woman was arrested for allegedly faking cancer and charged with collecting donations through a GoFundMe page and Facebook fundraiser totaling more than $10,000, CBS Philadelphia reports. Jessica Smith faces a number of felony theft counts for allegedly creating the scam donation pages.

This investigation started in June and Smith is now behind bars. The 32-year-old was arrested Wednesday after allegedly lying about having a rare form of colon cancer.

"This is a disturbing situation where she preyed upon the good nature of other people," Chester County's First Assistant Attorney Michael Noone said. "She took advantage of other people's generosity by lying about having cancer. She also lied about her own father's death to get another day off from work."

According to the criminal complaint, Smith claimed she was being treated at Penn Medicine but the facility couldn't find any record of any diagnosis or treatment of any form of cancer for her.

The host of the Ever Evolving Truth podcast said he discovered something was amiss with Smith after interviewing her twice.

"We just started looking into some of the things that she was saying and it turned out that every bit of it, every word she uttered to us was a lie," Jeff Bergh told CBS Philadelphia.

Smith's husband also told police she doesn't have cancer and that she's covered under his employer's health insurance policy.

A similar incident occurred in Pennsylvania in 2016, leading to the conviction of Brandi Weaver-Gates, who was sentenced to up to four years in prison. Weaver-Gates pleaded guilty, saying she fake having leukemia to get more attention from her family. Scam fundraisers that the 24-year-old created netted her more than $30,000.

Ex-Beauty Queen Brandi Weaver-Gates Sentenced to Prison for Stealing $30,000 While Faking Cancer

When ex-Pennsylvania beauty queen Brandi Weaver-Gates told her friends and family she had leukemia, they jumped into action — lending emotional support and raising almost $30,000 to help her. The only problem? Brandi didn't actually have cancer.

According to WJAC TV, the 24-year-old faked the disease to get more attention from her family. And a judge sentenced her to between two and four years of prison Tuesday, with five years of probation, as punishment for her theft-related crime.

"The defendant literally stole from dying people," Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller told People, which reported that some of Brandi's victims cried in court as they told stories about their cancer-stricken relatives who donated to Brandi before passing away.

More than 150 people donated almost $30,000 for her treatments; there was even a "Bingo for Brandi" event that brought in $14,000, CBS News reported. Brandi has been ordered to pay her victims back and was stripped of her crown and sash by Miss Pennsylvania U.S. International.

According to People, Brandi's scam went to extremes. She shaved her head, would walk out of hospitals at which she pretended she had appointments, used a wheelchair, encouraged friends to walk door-to-door for donations, and even had people carry her over the finish line of a race after faking fatigue from the "illness." Police were tipped off to her ruse in November of 2015.

"Her callousness evidenced an unusually cruel scheme to defraud people who were at their most vulnerable, friends and relatives of real cancer survivors," the district attorney told People. "The attention, charity work and money that went to her was stolen from real warriors battling cancer, some who have in fact since passed."

At least they didn't abuse any kids. You've heard of those people, make their kids sick to garner sympathy and money. Munchausen by Proxy I believe they call it.

And it looks like they'll be getting their just desserts.
