Why? In middle of 'peacereduction in violence week or something? Is this a good idea, iyo?

The only thing I can make out of that is that they want to get the peace deal done - and the elected president has an opponent claiming that he in fact won the election. And he to is planning an inauguration at the same time apparently. -- and then Washington supports neither of the claims.

I would have to read around and gain much more knowledge as I honestly haven't been following this one, nor why the other guy is claiming victory, and if that brouhaha is what is causing things or not.

In a land as corrupt as Afghanistan it is impossible to determine who actually won the election. It doesn't appear that the US is supporting one side or the other, they are just asking both sides to restrain their rhetoric while talks are ongoing. Personally, I would rather see a general announcement made that the US is pulling all of its' troops out by the end of March. After this point the US will closely monitor activities throughout the country via a well established informant network. Any activities that we determine will become a threat to US national security in the future will be dealt with on a case by case basis by 'raining hell from above' until the threat ceases. This would satisfy those calling for an end to our nation's longest war while throwing a bone to the war hawks by giving them a real life bomb/missile testing range. Let the knuckle draggers in that God forsaken land have at each other. We just have to do our best to contain their dysfunction to their own personal hell hole.

Shades of making a deal with Ho and telling Thieu take the deal or we're leaving anyway:rolleyes:

As I have said in the past on more than one occasion, you'd think we would have learned something in Nam. Or watching the Soviets in Afghanistan. Besides that, we make ourselves look worse with all this pretense of honor and diplomacy, fooling only ourselves into thinking we're going to walk out looking good. Politics wouldn't allow it 50 years ago, much less today.

Afghan conflict: US conducts first air strike on Taliban since deal

The US military has conducted an air strike against Taliban fighters in Afghanistan, just hours after President Donald Trump said he had had a "very good talk" with a leader of the group.
The US signed a deal with the Taliban on Saturday aimed at bringing peace to Afghanistan after years of war.
But a US forces spokesman said it launched an air strike on Wednesday in response to Taliban fighters attacking Afghan forces in Helmand province.
The Taliban called for de-escalation.
In a post on Twitter, spokesman Suhail Shaheen said the group "plans to implement all parts of the agreement one after another to prevent conflict escalation".
"The opposite side should also remove the obstacles in implementing all parts of the agreement so the way is paved for comprehensive peace and for the Afghans to have their basic rights," he added.
It was not clear if there were any casualties.

FIGHTING... is all these sons a bitches know. Let them fight EACH OTHER.Sure. I have no problem with that. Now add the MSM and left into any mix for disengaging. Add to that Trump playing Nixon and trying to smokescreen the fact that we're just spinning our wheels therefore leaving.

Forget the latter. Just leave and this is MY "peace treaty": Tell us no and hide another terrorist criminal and we'll come back, blow your asses up again, and occupy your shithole for as long as we like again. Have a nice day.

Screw all this trying to look good crap. Trump could cure cancer and the Dems/left/MSM would try to impeach him for it. So why bother trying when it isn't going to impress the people he wants to impress?

Should relocate I MEF to Ankara anyway.
