I downloaded spyhunter, but it doesn't appear to be free - it's scanning now, anyway.

Sorry bout that! Should have been more clearer with the first link. The program for download will search for issues, but WON'T remove the problem. They outlined how to manually remove your issue on there and that's what I was referencing.

But I forgot about TrendMicro. I used to use their site all the time in corporate environments on emergency cases and it's always worked well for me.

Shoot me a PM if that doesn't work and I can offer you something else!

It's still scanning for the time being. I'll probably let it finish then go to bed. I'm having major de ja vu about computers past!

When I ran on XP I used Avast! av (free from Alwil software). Like any av programme it won't pick up everything but it was pretty good. That may help you.

Try CCleaner ( you can get it from filehippo.com) for a bit of cleaning out of the system.

This bloke seems to know what's to be done:

Hey, this sounds like a variant of the SmitFraud trojan. A tool designed specifically to clean up that crap can be downloaded from the link below.

Cheers.

Hey Said1, did you get rid of that Trojan?

Not yet. I was too tired and frustrated to let the scan finish. That's what I'm doing now and it's almost done. Hopefully that's all that's needed.

Are you trying the SmitFraudFix tool? It should take care of your issue pretty easily if it is a SmitFraud variant.

Cheers! :D

I'm using Housecall. It's seems like there are less problems turning up than there were last night even though I cut the scan short. I'm not getting even close to the number of pop ups tonight.

I'm down to one POP UP a night IF I'm lucky. Now, if I could just remember what to do with it....
