Well, now .. 'I wonder' ....

the Vatican April 12, 2020. In a remarkable Easter Sunday letter to members of social movements around the world, Pope Francis, noting that the widespread suffering caused by the global coronavirus pandemic does not fall evenly, suggested that the crisis warranted the establishment of a universal basic income. He described it also as an opportunity for affluent societies to “downshift” and re-evaluate patterns of consumption and exploitation.

"This may be the time to consider a universal basic wage which would acknowledge and dignify the noble, essential tasks you carry out," Pope Francis wrote. "It would ensure and concretely achieve the ideal, at once so human and so Christian, of no worker without rights."

“I hope that this time of danger will free us from operating on automatic pilot, shake our sleepy consciences and allow a humanist and ecological conversion that puts an end to the idolatry of money and places human life and dignity at the center,” Pope Francis said.

“Our civilization—so competitive, so individualistic, with its frenetic rhythms of production and consumption, its extravagant luxuries, its disproportionate profits for just a few—needs to downshift, take stock and renew itself.” Pope Francis said that “technocratic paradigms (whether state-centered or market-driven) are not enough to address this crisis or the other great problems affecting humankind.”

The profit motive. That common denominator, driving and facilitating the very human drive towards material betterment. The Pope clearly hates it. He clearly thinks Covid-19 is his passport to dismantling it. Who'd have thought we could have a Pope whose psychology was akin to Chairman Mao's ??

Seems to me that nearly all popes are pretty close on this type of preaching. This one just doesn't avoid the buzzwords. I think to Christian message is certainly more like pure communism, than capitalism. Of course there's not pure communism.

Sorry my friend but on that I have to disagree..

Matthew 22:21 Jesus said "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's."

Jesus did not come to overthrow Rome. Nor did ever give advice that Christianity was to act as a political body.
His message was primarily about Salvation, not giving advice to Rome on how it should GOVERN!
As this new Pope is now giving.
Would be best if he knew to stay within religion and not try to be a politician imho..
As he is 100% wrong on issuing those words in the name of Christ..
Of course that is very likely why he was installed early, imho...

There is no getting around that quoted verse, is there??/-Tyr

Ok.

First time anyone has ever referred to me and my beliefs as communism. Then again. I should avoid mentioning that the VATICAN has a large collection of Billions of World dollars not mutually shared to rid the world of Hunger, Poverty, and Healthcare. EXCUSE me while I just STOP here.

What was Christ's message? Love. 'What you do to the least of my brother's, that you do unto me.'

Does the Vatican have lots of wealth? Yes. Much the same as monarch's and the legacies throughout Europe, no denying that. So do many of the mainstream religious leaders have personal wealth-not to mention the less considered tele-evangelists. As I said regarding this Pope or any religious leader, they are men-not gods. With the Catholic Church in particular, but not alone-take a peek at Episcopal, Methodist, Lutheran, those men often talk one way, live another.

Christ's message though, does not depend on one man, even a board of men-it's each person's personal responsibility. Are there those who follow the message perfectly? Some seem to, we often call them saints-at least those we hear of. Probably there are more, maybe even better at living that message that we never hear of? Good people, loving people. Still not gods though. Rare though they are.

I'm not implying that communism is good, but you may have noticed I prefaced it with 'pure' meaning perfect. How communism is purported to work, IF done correctly, which never has happened. It ignores the nature of most of us. Without goals, most don't work. If they can get what they need, that's good. Now add in the fact that no matter how hard one were to work, still nothing more than you need-which again is not how the economics work, just speaking of theoretical. Of course we haven't even addressed the 'unpure' practice of the system. Like Bernie's 3 houses or how Putin or Castro or any other 'communist' leader lives as opposed to the people.

Pure is theory. Actuality is what happens.

Communist figureheads. Socialist figureheads. Leftie leaders (with sufficient power) of any description: they ALL make sure, despite their 'beliefs', that 'they & theirs' are doing extremely well, materially speaking.

Here in the UK, for example, Jeremy Corbyn is said to have greater personal, private wealth than does Boris Johnson.

It's the way of the world, it's how human nature is. In my book, any non-Capitalistic philosophy is too alien to human nature to ultimately work. I'm sure Popes know it, as do most of the rest of us .. but, they have their message to preach, as this current one does.

This particular one seems more completely brainwashed by Europe's Lefties than is usual. I have to say: this one takes his Leftieism to highly offensive levels.

I won't put it any more strongly than that.

Yep, as I acknowledged above. How things work vs how they were supposed to work.
